If speed is more your thing, the jet boating on the Shotover and Kawarau rivers is properly thrilling. Skippers Canyon jet combines a gnarly 4WD road with a Shotover River blast and comes up a treat in reviews. KJet covers more ground across the lake and rivers if you want the broader experience. Out near Glenorchy, the Dart River Funyak Safari is a full day of jet boating and kayaking through Mt Aspiring National Park. Not cheap, but the setting is on another level. It's the kind of thing that's hard to replicate anywhere else in the region.
