Lake Wakatipu looks different from the water. The Million Dollar Cruise is a 90-minute lap of the lake on a classic old Fiordlander vessel, and it's one of the more relaxed ways to take in the Remarkables and the wider Queenstown scenery without the noise and crowds of the bigger tourist operations. It's small, it's intimate, and it moves at a pace that actually lets you look at things.
The skipper is the real reason this one works. Reviewers consistently single out the captain's commentary as the highlight, with a natural mix of local knowledge, humour and genuine enthusiasm. There's also feeding wild trout and eels off the side of the boat, which sounds simple but tends to go down well with pretty much everyone on board. Warm blankets and a licensed bar are handy too, especially if the Queenstown wind has other ideas.
Compared to some of the bigger lake experiences in town, this one is genuinely good value. It's been that way for a long time judging by how consistently people rate it. Use promo code RANKERS for 10% off, which helps keep us going at Rankers too.
