This is a two-for-one that actually delivers on both halves. The drive up Skippers Road is genuinely gripping, not just filler before the jet boat. The road is narrow, the drops are real, and the driver commentary on the gold rush history is consistently good across pretty much every review I've read. It's one of those rare cases where the journey to the thing is nearly as good as the thing itself.
The jet boat side is fast and fun, with a couple of 360-degree spins through tight canyon walls. Worth knowing though: a handful of travellers reckon it's over a bit quickly and slightly tamer than the pure adrenaline rides in town. If you're chasing maximum thrills, just set expectations accordingly. (Use promo code RANKERS for 10% off while you're booking, which softens the price a little.)
My take is that this suits people who want a bit of context with their adventure. The gold mining history, the Lord of the Rings locations, the old suspension bridge stop. It's a solid three-hour trip and the guides seem to genuinely enjoy their work, which makes a difference.

Departures are available year-round from central Queenstown. Summer (October – April) departures are at 8:30am, 12pm, and 3:30pm. Winter (May – September) departures are at 9am and 1pm. The total trip duration is 2.5 to 3 hours return. |

The drive to Skippers Canyon was epic along the old goldmine track. Our driver was great up to the canyon with lots of stories and history about the place.
The jet boat was ok, not as much of an adrenalin rush as I thought it would be.

Don't bother with Shotover jetboat unless you have no time. Trip up Skippers Canyon with great commentary. Description of the gold rush facilities. Jetboat ride was great with more commentary about actual gold mining sites. 3 hours.

The jetboat ride was fun - there were two 360' turns (I wished for more!).
Also, great commentary by the skipper. After the boat ride, they took us to the old bungy site with a suspension bridge where you can take beautiful pictures from. Great experience and value for money.

We chose combined gold tour which was well done but aimed towards the older traveller, a little tame for us.
Included Jetboat, 4x4 ride and museum.

Good value. You are escorted to Shotover River by bus from your campsite then an exhilirating Jet Boat excursion up the river and back, then you are returned to your campsite.

Great trip to Skippers Canyon, a bit further than the competition.
Lots of interesting trivia on the walk. Maybe a bit pricey.
