  • Loads of space.

Choice of paddock or under the pine trees. Good toilets and water available. Short walk to the beach and can walk for hours to the left. Good cell coverage and dog friendly.

  • This is a beautiful, spacious freedom campground right next to the beach.

Nice clean flush toilets, and cold outdoor shower. We didn’t want to leave.

  • Great place to stay.

Was fairly busy though on Labour Weekend. Apparently it's meant to be quiet normally! Definately some better spots in there too so get in early!

All the locals were very friendly and happy to provide advice on surf casting and possible swim spots.

    Toilets clean and well serviced.

  • Lovely spot, good cell phone coverage and immaculately clean flushing toilets, plus drinking water.

2 minutes walk to a beautiful, quiet beach with rich wildlife. Good shelter, hardly anyone around - we visited in May and didn’t speak to a soul for 2 days! Worth bringing stuff to eat as the shop isn’t walking distance.

  • We had 2 nights here and found the camp clean & tidy, the new toilet block is excellent.

An outside tap is available, and a short stroll through beach grasses to the beautiful big beach.

The grass park is a little undulating in places and room for larger vehicles. Well done Porangahau.

Golf club here at the beach also.

  • Awesome spot and we caught it on a perfect bluebird day with no wind!

We had a chat with a local who told us Porangahau is Maori for Mad Winds! There are toilets and a water fountain available. No other facilities. There was a bit of rubbish around the campsite so we spent 10mins do a quick pick up, please respect the freedom camping areas in NZ and take out what you take in so we can continue to enjoy these places. There is a great coffee spot in Porangahau township called Flotsam and Jestsam Coffee next to the dairy. He also makes pizzas which we didnt get to try on this trip but they look legit! Cant wait to go back.

Gorgeous beach 100metres from the campsite, drinking water and now new, spacious, clean toilets!

  • Lots of space, super sunny spot.

The beach is just a short walk away, there is a dairy in Porongahau (too long to walk to) with the basic essentials. Separate male/female toilets (which are going to be rebuilt this year) there is a drinking water tap. We enjoyed staying here. Cheers

  • Lots of camping space, for tents and motor homes.

We got a beautiful spot under huge trees, with a view to the beach. Been here 2 nights... staying again tonight. Drinking water tap available!!! Clean toilets. Shop is a 10 minute drive to the village, but if you drive around to the other side (heading in the directing which you entered) there a food van.

Loved freedom camping here. Peaceful, amazing ocean and friendly people.

Wonderful spot. And a bonus to have two flushing toilets with toilet paper and running water as well as drinking water on tap. We are very fortunate to have places like this to stay in NZ.

  • A lovely little freedom camp, two clean flush toilets and easy access to a lovely white sand beach.

We are so luck to have these places in NZ.
