Great campground with all facilities and long white beach with lots of wind.
Small store (open when we were there) in the township within a short walking distance from the campground. Campground also had a small shop offering coffee and a few essential camping supplies. Recommended

Terrific little Council-run free camping area with two excellent toilets and a water supply.
Beautiful beach extending miles in both directions. No convenient shops. Most sites are in the open, plus a couple amongst pine trees. First come, first served. Tricky tight turn in from the road for larger caravans, so head straight in, then turn to right.

Interesting beach with stunning cliff backdrop able to be walked (climbed?) up if you are fit.
Did not stay in the Freedom Area ( which was quite busy) but non-self contained campers may find a site at the small Community-operated campground at the southern end of the beach front, immediately after a small stream weir crossing. About 4 or 5 unoccupied sites available. May not be open all year. Simple but completely adequate kitchen, toilet and shower facilities available. Highly Recommended.

Magnificent beach.
Sealed road all the way from Waipawa Town, OR gravel road (but quite ok) direct from Kairakau Beach.
Very good Council (long drop) toilets in centre of the freedom camp area. NO WATER SUPPLY, so be sure to bring your own. Sites are First come, First served.

Stayed one night.
Excellent campground and facilities. One of the best I have stayed in. Some beach front sites or interior sites, all nice and flat. Fully sealed access road. Great beach and walking tracks over into Scandretts Regional Park. Friendly staff. Highly recommended. Would be very busy in holiday season with lots of permanent caravans and cabins

Excellent campground.
I stayed one night mainly to visit the nearby Trounson Kauri Reserve, but this campground was stunning in its own right. Marvelous facilities, including tame eels to feed in the adjacent river (meat only), and glow worms at night under the bridge. Even a mini bush walk, kids swimming hole, and old-style flying fox. Would gladly visit again in a heartbeat.

Superb campground within walking distance of the Marina, just watch crossing the road!
Several places to eat out within walking distance (adjacent the marina). Be sure to walk out to the lighthouse ( must be low tide). Drive to the very end of the private road to a carpark. Also be sure to check out the beaches to the north, especially the walk to Whale Bay

Great little campground.
Access road is sealed all the way, and an enjoyable drive down the peninsular. Great position. No shops in the village. There is a mobile burger bar open Thursday to Sunday in the evenings. Very peaceful spot to sit back and enjoy the view.

I had booked a site for my teardrop caravan but upon arrival chose to relocate to a nearby commercial campground.
I would suggest it suits tent campers more than caravans or campervans. Facilites are good and the Kauri trail is well worth the walk. Stay overnight if you want to attempt kiwi spotting at night, otherwise plan your visit as a day trip

Excellent campground, host and facilities.
We parked our caravans on the premium "beach view" sites. However, these are better suited to campervans than caravans, as backing onto the sites was a bit tricky. These sites are also more exposed to wind.

Great campsite and location although only basic amenities ( water and long drops).
Plenty of superb walks and safe swimming beach ( but no surf patrol). You need to book a site to get codes to enter campground, but once there its pick your own site. Can be quite busy. Access road to the Regional Park entrance is fully sealed.

Stayed 4 nights in early December.
Excellent ablution blocks withlong drops and cold showers or bring your own solar shower. Plenty of fresh water although signs warn to boil it first. Powered sites are at the Eastern- most area. Wonderful ambience, lots of shelter trees and a stunning beach. Some low-lying sites are subject to flooding from the small streams within the campground. Ranger on site plus a small shop (but open only during summer peak season so range on sale unknown). Best access is via Colville settlement ( about 7km of gravel road that had been recently graded Dec/23). Would certainly revisit.
