Great location near town
Close to public toilets
Safe near police station
Nice spot by the river
Confusing bus stop signals
Limited to 1 night stay
Road traffic noise
For a freedom campsite in town, it was great.

Spot very easy to find and just in front of police station.
Toilets are just 200m

The post below about the bus stop is a different free camping spot in the same town.
Just park between the arrows and dont park in front of the dropped curb for the bus stop and you'll be ok. You get 2 nights at that one.
Kapanga Road has a bay of 4 and then a separate bay for 2 next to the EV charging point. 1 night only, out by 0800 (and there was a man checking). Toilets close by, lovely little spot

This place is primarily suited for a brief stay.
It's situated by a charming little river, and some nearby trees offer a bit of shelter from the rain. There's a table close by where you can sit down. About 200 meters away, you'll find toilets with running water, although I would recommend using the more centrally located city toilets. Additionally, there's a public BBQ area available if you'd like to prepare some food there.

Convenient to town, flat.
On roadside (across from police station which was reassuring) but no major disturbance. Toilet was approx 200m away (closed overnight).

Great freedom campspot.
Not that many spots but we found one. Public toilets are close by.

Beautiful location next to a stream, but on a main road.
Police station opposite but it didn’t stop drunks jumping on my van at about 1am. Otherwise it’s a minutes walk to the public toilet which closes at dusk and a water tap in the park. You have to be off site by 9am, can stay 2 nights and the council do check for SC. Just a real shame about the drunks which made me feel unsafe

For a freedom campsite in town, it was great.
Right next to the road so there is a bit of road traffic noise. Toilets are only a 2 minute walk. Nice grass area/stream to back on to. 5 parking spots available.

5 spots back onto a stream with some tree cover.
Quiet & across the street from Police Station. Short walk to the main street and 2 minute walk to public washrooms which were open late (maybe 24 hours?) and cleaned overnight. Nice & easy stopover for one or two nights! FYI these spots fill up fast.

Lovely little spot opposite a police station.
Felt pretty secure knowing the police were opposite, kept peace of mind. Grass area next to a stream with a picnic bench, pretty relaxing. It is next to a ‘main’ road. But not much traffic going past. Toilets a little walk away and closed in the night. Clean and open fairly early. Beautiful sunset. Not so many places, so get there before the evening time.

This is a nice spot right by a little stream.
It wasn’t busy when we got there but there is only a small number of spots available, so it might be busy in Dec and Jan. The short walk to the public toilets is fine and it’s great to freshen up there. Coromandel Town is a cute place and they have amazing coffee at the cafe on the right side of the supermarket.

Parking opposite the police station won’t be everyone’s idea of a great location and being just off the road and it sounds like a no-no, however we found it to be fine.
There’s a picnic bench beside the stream to the rear of the carpark, and clean public toilets a short walk away (closed at night). The town has a great timeless feeling and sir choice of eating places, from local sea food to Thai, and several bars to quench your thirst. Perfect for one night stop to explore the town.

Not too noisy over the night. Public toilet was okay.

The river is nice to watch but the road is just next to you.
4 places, only us this night. Toilets are a 1 minute walk but too bad, they close during the night.
It's not the best spot but enough for one night.
