This is one of those West Coast experiences where most people come away saying it cost too much and they'd do it again tomorrow. The helicopter ride up is short but the scenery is genuinely wild, and once you're on the ice with crampons on, two hours goes fast. The guides are a real highlight across the board. Knowledgeable, patient, and good at making the glacier feel like more than just a photo stop.
A couple of things worth knowing. Group sizes can vary and some travellers felt they were a bit big for the walk. Weather is also a real factor up here on the Coast. A whiteout means no landing, so there's always that risk. Go in knowing that and you won't be caught off guard.
I'd go early in the day if you can and keep an eye on the forecast. Sunscreen is not optional up on the ice even when it's overcast. The total time including check-in and the flight is around four hours so plan your day around it. Use promo code RANKERS for 10% off and that takes a bit of the sting out of the price.

Fun flying in the helicopter, interesting information from the guide, with very blue ice formations, but pretty expensive.

This was the only thing we booked in advance from back home.
Worth every penny. Helicopter up to the Glacier, three hours ice time hiking. Our guide was the best!

Memorable experience!
Nine out of Ten only because the check-in process could be improved upon, but once we were checked in, the people, the equipment, and the experience were wonderful. The helicopter portion was shorter than I was hoping but the scenary was just fantastic! The actual hike guide was awesome, even though his mixed Chinese Kiwi accent was a hoot! Very knowledgable, and led us all on a great adveture through the ice!

This was mind blowing and awesome fun.
Best way to get some unreal scenery and respect for mother nature whilst perfect exercise. Definitely recommend and would do again in a heartbeat. Is a must for all ages.

15mins rainforest trek to Franz Josef glacier then a 1hr hike on a glacier.
All necessary equipment provided. Ask for gloves.
