AMAZING! This was our favorite camp site by far - we were here in the winter and had the place to ourselves. The location is just phenomenal! We slept to the sound of the waves and woke up with the most amazing sunrise right out our window. It is freedom camping so expect as much. There is a bathroom that was actually quite clean with toilet paper but that's about it.

A great safe stopover for us in a self contained campervan. Awoke to a gorgeous view over the lake with swans, waterbirds and ducks to watch, much to the delight of our 3 year old. Beautiful surrounds, well maintained, rubbish bins emptied each day, even on a Sunday when we were there. Water, dump station and cold outdoor shower, and taps, provided everything we needed. No public toilets here, but again, not a problem for self contained campers. Highly recommend staying here!

We loved our campervan from Escape! They set us up with everything we needed, and even went for a test drive with us to help us get used to driving on the lefthand side of the road! We camped during the winter, and the electric heater they gave us kept us nice and warm. Great experience overall, and I highly recommend Escape!

Great! Make sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to dam opening. The first viewpoint is an easy 5 minutes walk. The second one (higher + little more challenging walk) is 8 minutes walk from first viewpoint (so 13 minutes from car parking area). People who watched "The Hobbit - Desolation of Smaug" will recognise this place ;-). You can also access the higher viewpoint via an asphalted access further up the main road for wheelchairs and so on. A must see when near Taupo.

Great DOC site at the foot of Mt Sefton and a good start for the Kea Point and Hooker Valley walks, with 3 separate toilet blocks (2 small ones were closed in winter). Not just a car park, but designated single sites with picnic tables. Can get cold at night. We thought it was worth the $10pp/night.
