New camping ground with grassy pitches. A little bit DOC lookalike because it's all wooden (quite nice). Clean facilities with separate showers (which are free except from Christmas period). There is a huge undercover dining are with free bbq. There is a beautiful beach though you don't get the view from the gamping ground itself.
Recommended anyway.

A nice surprise freedom camp for our 1st night in a campervan

We were concerned at first when we found it on the Rankers App, but when we arrived, it was indeed free. The Hotel have put aside a gravel area (20 spaces at least?) for complimentary campervan overnight parking.

Self-contained only, and no expectation to spend anything in the hotel, we only popped in to check it was free, and they were genuinely surprised we asked.

Spent the night next the duckpond and shared the site with only one other campervan

On departing we noticed a water supply marked for campervans so filled our fresh tank

No frills, but free

1 hour prepared DOC walk in a complete dark cave with walking in the river that flows through the cave, torch required - will get wet - even climbing up little waterfalls - BEST thing ever.

What a beautiful spot! Stopped on a tour of the East Cape mid February and ended up staying for 2 nights it was so beautiful. Facilities are good, if a little dated - this is a remote site! WiFi was free and price very reasonable. Parked up right next to the beach. Perfect.
