The Big Question: Milford or Doubtful?
Fiordland has two fiords worth cruising and they're genuinely different experiences. Milford Sound is the classic, and the cruise that heads out into the Tasman Sea is my pick - it gives you a view back into the sound that the others don't, and it's the same price. If you can save 10% on that, even better. Doubtful Sound is the quieter, more remote option - limited numbers each day, and that cap makes a real difference to how the whole thing feels.

The single best move in Fiordland is to stay nearby in your campervan and get on the early sailing. True for Milford, and especially true for Doubtful Sound. The early cruise dodges the bus traffic out of the Queenstown Region, costs less, and is genuinely quieter on the water.
