Great spot just out of town near the water.
Good clean new toilet block. Heaps of parking but did fill up. Bins provided.
South Island ▷ Queenstown Region ▷ Kingston ▷
Very busy due to being the closest Freedom South of Queenstown.
Hard to find a level area and the views of Lake fill quickly. Don't bother if it's raining or has recently as the hillside would be slippery. Single toilet block which was ok.
South Island ▷ Central Otago ▷ Cromwell ▷
Great view of the water, heaps of space but get in early for front row.
Open area and main road at the back means road noise wherever you park. Minimal toilet facilities though were clean and a bit older. No lights. Rubbish facilities provided near main toilet block on right side.
South Island ▷ Mount Cook - MacKenzie ▷ Twizel ▷
Five stars if the toilets (4) weren't so smelly in the morning.
They were clean though and had to service a lot of people. Views of the lake, the stars and the mountains were amazing. Get in early for a good spot. Slight road noise. Lake good for a swim.
North Island ▷ Waikato ▷ Cambridge ▷
Great spot by the lake.
Heaps of room though was quite busy. Great sunrise. Toilet block was clean for its age.
North Island ▷ Taranaki ▷ Patea ▷
Space for about 6 comfortably.
Council came by to survey. Beautiful view, though toilets were about a 5-10 minute walk downhill if needed, reasonably clean.

Booked for a petted site two days in advance.
Had the choice of two remaining spots when we got there and picked sour three. Space and ability to park a 6m motorhome was great, good and basic kitchen facilities at front of park were sufficient for plenty of people. Laundry nearby was very busy. Heaps of food/drink just a walk away. Toilets and showers were great.
South Island ▷ Fiordland ▷ Te Anau ▷
Over 100 spots and half filled when we arrived around 7pm.
Toilets ok but a bit smelly. No internet reception. Fantastic views in the morning after the rain clouds started to clear.
North Island ▷ Wellington Region ▷ Wellington ▷
Crammed in like sardines, though convenient to be in town.
Many movements throughout the night for ferry departures and arrivals. Toilets very clean.
South Island ▷ Mount Cook - MacKenzie ▷ Lake Tekapo ▷
10 minutes out of town, single toilet was clean.
Back fence is good for sunset. Road noise ok. Very busy by 7pm with people still coming in very late at night, possible after stargazing tours.
North Island ▷ Taranaki ▷ Mokau ▷
Really nice spot on the inlet.
Very busy and need to get in early for front row views. About five drop toilets that are clean but smelly. Make sure you check for low tide to walk along left side of beach for Elephant Rock and Three Sisters. First part is very slippery.
North Island ▷ Rotorua Region ▷ Rotorua ▷
Carpark style, very busy and we were very lucky to get a spot.
Toilets 50m away were clean and apparently have closing times. Smell of Sulphur always around. Really handy for local restaurants and shops.

Yes, it's true - sandflys.
Nestled among the trees, sites filled up quick. View across the road to the mountains was beautiful. Just a shame we couldn't last longer than 10mins due to the sandflies. Toilets were good, no lighting though. Priced a little high considering most Freedom camps have more space and lighting at nil cost.
South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷ Blenheim ▷
Very quiet off the highway.
Limited space for about 3 or 4 big campers. No toilets. Great to call in one off the ferry.
