It was SHUT on the Waitangi Day holiday when the town was full of visitors and travellers coming off or waiting to board the ferries.
Consequently we were not able to store our bags whilst we waited for the bus to Christchurch.
Luckily the very obliging lady at the train station looked after our luggage for a few hours at no charge. This saved us from having to drag our bags around town whilst looking for a coffee and sandwich. The few cafes that were open had queues down the street (I'm not exaggerating).
It would seem that some small business owners are choosing lifestyle over earnings. I thought that the pandemic would have made them want to make the most of every opportunity to make money.

Made all the bookings for us for Abel Tasman and gave very good information about the sites and parks nearby.

Helpful employee but she had never been to the Marlborough Sounds before so she could not tell us which places were nice to go to.

Young lady was so proud, when we asked about free camping she negotiated with us like we were something worthless.
