  • This site is perfect for the doubtful sound day trip and they were happy for us to leave the campervan on the pitch until we returned at 3pm.

You can walk 10 mins to the little ferry port through the woods. The site is fine although pitches are cramped. A couple of showers for each gender with hot water included but basic small cubicles. Sandflies obvs!

  • Small campsite which packed in a lot of facilities with great access to Real Nz centre via a 10min walk through beautiful woodland by the river.

Also a 10min walk the other direction to Fraser Beach.

Had toilets, showers, laundry, cooking and washing up facilities. Also had a lounge where people could eat, with lots of board games, also had a fire pit and bbq, and table tennis in another little social area.

    There are sand flies here.

  • Great position.

Very friendly family run campsite. Close to the sound. Older style however very clean and the friendly atmosphere makes up for being older. Highly recommended as beginning or ending of anywhere in Fiordland

  • A great laid back feel to this place.

Quiet and by a great beach (Frasers) and water taxi to take to walking areas. People use it for the Doubtful sound trip too if you can afford it! Could do with investment in facilities.

  • Small campsite in the forest with a homely vibe :) perfect place to do a Doubtful Sound tour, it’s just a ten minute walk.

I would recommend getting a powered site, the unpowered ones were extremely close together, like small parking lots. Lots of sandflies so we couldn’t really use the outdoor stuff. If you take a shower use the one inside the lounge!

  • 12 & 13 April.

2 adults. $100. Quirky. Previous review as said hippy. Maybe, but definitely quirky.

Only 2 toilets for the site, one of which also has a shower. Separately there are 2 showers each for women and men.

The owners put a lot of work into keeping it clean and provide hand towels etc.

Thinking about this I have revised my rating from 8 to 9.

Only about 10 mins from the jetty for the Doubtful Sound cruise via a path through the woods. All in all a very good site

  • Loved the hippy and relaxed atmosphere there.

Felt like a proper mountain campsite just like in the Alps. ♥️

  • Nice medium-prize camping with common kitchen, bathrooms although a little pricy : 22£ pp for an unpowered site.

Close to the Doubtful sound ferry station and very practical therefore.

  • Possum Lodge lives from its location (close to the stone beach, close to the Doubtful Sound departure point), but that's about it.

The facilities are run down and it is obvious that the place hasn't seen much investments (neither time nor money) in the recent past. Owners/staff rather unfriendly trying to rent out every square meter of their land. Garbage bins are emptied only occasionally. Showers and toilets are 50m apart from each other. No dump station. Many sand flies.

This guest clearly has no idea or appreciation of the hospitality industry. We bought this camping ground a year ago and have spent many hours and money on it. You did not see it a year ago. We are working furiously on upgrading but this insulting guest has no idea and never asked. Regarding the bins - how would you know when they are emptied?? Did you watch them all day?? If you did watch them all day - very sad - you should spend more time enjoying the great outdoors and sights Fiordland has to offer. If you did not watch them all day - how would know when they were emptied?? This guest clearly needs to stay in sterile five star hotels and not in character filled, fun camping grounds
