We would give them no stars if possible.

We rented a Polaris 6 from the Auckland office for two weeks on the north island in April 2026. The vehicle was not ready for us and was leaking water across the floor. We later learned it was in for repairs; the vehicle we were supposed to have was moved to Christchurch before we arrived.

The electrical system failed the first night of freedom camping. Having rented RVs many times before, we knew this was not right.

We contacted Star RV repeatedly, but no resolution was found. We did provide Star RV with the opportunity to repair the system part way through our travels, but their repairs did nothing.

The electrical system continued to fail for the entire trip although we used lights sparingly (one at a time), did not use the over range ventilation system, did not use the water heater, did not use toilet or shower, etc, etc. Worst of all, the fridge did not work for our entire rental. Even when we did pay to stay in a campground with electricity, the fridge did not work. We had to buy ice for the entire two weeks.

After months of effort and detailed descriptions of our experiences, Star RV refused to refund us an appropriate amount for the time lost on our vacation and the stress caused by a non-functioning electrical system. They offered us a $266 refund for a two week rental that consisted of non-stop electrical problems.

Do not rent from this company. They may offer a budget option, compared to others, but honestly, it is not worth the risk.

This company has no interest in customer service or getting repeat business. They are entirely lacking in integrity and do not care about the experiences of their customers.

It is quite an achievement to sell the promise of a "high-value" product that truly lacked foundational utility, while at the same time expecting the customer to bear the financial and emotional burden of quality control failures.

Amazing location with a great kitchen and barbeque facilities.

More toilets could be made available. An incredibly chill vibe and a wonderful social atmosphere. We met travellers here who we saw again and again on trails and other locations.

We rented a Jucy Condo for our family in March 2026.

With Jucy, it really is the luck of the draw.

Our initial vehicle was a first generation Jucy Condo and was OK - lacking in storage spots in the kitchen, aroma from the unused toilet, problematic privacy shades, etc, but it did the trick.

We were also sent off on our travels with no sheets for the beds and resorted to using towels and a duvet cover as sheets.

We switched to another vehicle part way through our south island travels because of the toilet aroma and some suspension problems. Staff at the Queenstown office were quick to provide us with a replacement vehicle.

The second vehicle was Second Generation (we think). It provided better storage and better privacy shades.

Jucy is what Jucy is: a very budget rental. It did the trick for us.

SIDE NOTE: We rented from Star RV on the north island. It is the same company. If you choose to rent from this company (Jucy/Star RV) and have problems, you will not get much of a refund. We had considerable problems with our "upgraded" Star RV vehicle on the north island and they offered us an embarrassing refund based on the significant electrical problems we encountered. They have no integrity and are not interested in retaining customers.
