I would highly recommend a stay at Driftawat, the facilities were immaculate, sensational views, the only down side is it’s a bit far from the main shops in Queenstown.
But there are plenty of eateries near by.

Stayed here on a powered site for a week.
After 8 weeks of travelling around NZ, this has to be up there as one of the best overall campgrounds. Pretty much every van site has lake views, the facility hub is basically like a decent hostel. Bathrooms are spacious, heated and cleaned regularly.
The kitchen is big, just remember you need to bring all your own plates and utensils etc as they don’t provide (understandable as I’m sure people nick stuff)!
Just really nice place and only 400m or so down to the marina and the brewery 🙏

Perfect location along the lake with shopping and restaurants within easy walking distance.
Bus or water taxi easy walk to get to Queenstown proper. The view of the sunset over the lake with the mountains behind from the campground was amazing. Huge kitchen area and lots of tables to eat at. Bathroom and showers were very clean.

Fabulous park.
A bit of a trudge going to the upper level amenities block but worth it to be near this beautiful lake. If you can find the time to do the Walter Peak High Country dinner cruise- do it! A fabulous experience

Amazing campsite, best value around Queenstown, we’d say.
We had a lot of fun playing pingpong and Pac-Man and more. The kitchens are super modern and clean and nice. Same for toilets and showers. Beautiful lake views from (most) sites. To quote my partner: ‘Best campsite ever, worth every penny.’

Best site so far.
Amazing views of the lake from tiered levels of pitches. Each pitch had it's own picnic bench. Great kitchen facilities with outdoor heated plates for BBQ. Clean spacious plentiful warm showers and toilets. Hospitable welcome. Very well organised. Direct access to lakefront through a coded gate where you can walk along the frankton track beside at lake into Queenstown ( 6km). Water taxi back at night takes you 400m from the site. Couldn't fault it tbh.

Ok for a nights stay but under a flight path, loud pub behind you.
Rude staff. Shame because the park itself is beautiful, a few too many camera’s and rules

A Slice of Heaven with Exceptional Service!
Staying at Driftaway Campsite was an unforgettable experience. While its location in the heart of Queenstown feels like a piece of heaven, what truly sets this place apart is the remarkable quality of service provided by its team. From the moment I arrived, it was evident that this campsite isn’t just managed—it’s cared for, with a level of professionalism and passion that is rare to find.
I had to make a last-minute change to my booking, reducing my stay by one night, and requested that the refund for the cancellation be gifted as a tip to their incredible staff. To my surprise, they graciously declined and insisted on returning the amount to my account—an act that reflects their integrity and genuine care for their guests.
Driftaway isn’t just a campsite; it’s a sanctuary where attention to detail, customer care, and exceptional management combine to create a truly special experience. Whether it’s the spotless facilities, the breathtaking surroundings, or the warm and welcoming team, this place is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Queenstown in style and comfort.
Thank you, Driftaway team, for going above and beyond. I’ll cherish this stay and am already looking forward to returning!

Really pleasant stay at the campsite.
They provide you with fully equipped and clean facilities. Queenstown centre is about an hour away by foot but the walk by the river can be amazing if you’re up for it ( if not there’s a bus and water taxi you can get). The only downside is there’s only one block of toilets so if you’re the other side of the campsite it can be quite a trek. Overall very pleased and would recommend!

We have stayed in a few campsites during our 3 week trip to New Zealand and Driftaway was definitely one of the best.
Everything was spotlessly clean and the bathrooms were like walking into a hotel facility.Absolutely loved our stay.
