On a main road but there was little noise at night.

Good supply of drinking water and decent toilets but no bins. Nice picnic area by the water across the road and easy walk to the town and nice walk over to coopers beach. A convenient spot on the road up north.

    Nice spot for one night.

Toilets available 24/7 and the street in front wasn’t that busy at night.

We stayed one night, the location is great and close to the esplanade and eateries are all within walking distance, the toilets are a busy hub of people coming and going, we had no trouble and was quiet

after 8pm, the cleaners came at 6.30am they were quite loud with music, the toilets were ok, not the cleanest but great to have close by! We had stayed here over the other free camp close by due to the proximity and access to more options

Officially 4 places but campsite large enough for 20 vehicles!

Correct toilets (were 100% cleaned with a karcher the morning we were there). Quiet even though it's on the side of the road. Free emptying station and drinking water available.

Nice site lovely view Nice town around the corner Only downside was that it seemed that the toilet was used throughout the night by passing traffic

    Wouldn’t recommend.

Loud music and cars driving around the car park overnight and one car hit the lampost. It was our worst experience during our 6 weeks of freedom camping.

Free camp idéal pour 1 ou 2 nuits : assez grand, toilettes propres, dump station et robinet d'eau potable.

    Facile d'accès.

    Nous y retournerons sans problèmes.

Parking place with seaview. Good maintained toilets, dumping station and drinking water there.

In the evening still some traffic on the street next to it. At some point a local started talking to us - it was a little strange. But we were fine.

We didn’t intend to stay here but the freedom camp near to Cape Reinga was closed due to fires.

Great place, not many spaces but really quite and toilets were clean.

We liked this spot and came here twice.

On the north end by the okay public toilets there is water and a dump station. The sign said 4 campers max but perhaps 10-12 stayed per night and noone seemed to bother us. We parked more southerly under a huge overhanging tree that felt sheltered and lovely. Busy road with a couple locals revving past screaming "yahooo" at the campers but it quieted down by 10 pm. One car drove closely past us as my bf was outside working the chocks. A young man growled "would you like me to give you a MacKenzie?" rather threateningly which made me wonder if we'd have our tires knifed in the dark but rather stangely I suppose, we would stay again in spite of that.

    Convenient place to stay overnight.

We arrived late night and left early, didn't use the facilities so can't say anything about it.

Quite spacious place but we were alone that night.

    There is 4G reception here.

Needs some maintenance on the roadway.

    Pretty good site feel safe.

Biggest issue has been the dump station which seems to be blocked more often than not.

As with all FNDC dump stations it's poorly designed and your guaranteed to either step in an overflow or have one yourself

Wild chickens and rooster that started at 5am. Toilets clean but cleaner came at 6am amd cleaned out with loud leaf blower. Dump station there also. Short walk into township

Not a huge amount of space for parking, but fairly out of the way area, so had the place to myself even though I showed up late on a Saturday night.

Cars would stop by throughout the night/morning to use the public toilets, so a little bit of noise/activity. The Duke's Nose hike is well worth doing when in the area.

We stayed on Sunday night and it was quiet.

The road noise was minimal and subsided later in the evening. Flushing toilets were good but very cold stainless steel loos! There was a huge queue for the dump station around 9:30-10am ish and the road is somewhat narrow when huge Campervans park there.

As others mentioned there were roosters. Monday morning we had two and they only started crowing at 7:49am so it was fine.

Didn’t see or hear any locals partying.

The Campsite is well used as there are many people stopping to use loos etc so it didn’t feel lonely or unsafe. The noise was minimal. we parked a bit away from the toilets.

Shops and another set of public toilets just 2 min drive down the road. Handy location. (Mangonui Fish & Chips really delicious but you’re paying for it and portions very small.)

There’s a tiny park across the road looking at the water, or a better one just a minute towards the motorway for breakfasting and water views.

Roadside rest stop with potable water, pump out and good flush toilets.

Right next to town and a laundromat. Good pitstop heading to the far north or down to Bay of Islands.

Local yahoos showed up to play loud music at midnight, which was ‘t very nice. Was about to get a posse of campers together to deal with it but they got bored and left.

Nice flat lawn area next to mangroves and quiet road.

Flushing public toilet and dump station. Only downside is the dawn chorus of Cockrells, they are fed there and seem to roost near the end of the camp furthest from the township

Nice shaded spot with views of the sea, right next to a road but not too busy.

Toilets were a little dirty and drinking water had been removed when we went but a lovely local gave us access to some. There are 4 cockerels who are rather friendly and wake you up at about 6:30am so not a spot for those who like a lie in! Lots of people stop in to use the loo so not the quietest, but a good stopover point.

Perfect spot to get away from that New Zealand summer sun, very well shaded.

Lovely 10 minute walk to the town centre, shops, cafes, takeaways or a 2 minute walk to the nearest Indian restaurant. Toilet facilities available, views overlooking Mangonui Harbour. Will definitely revisit.

Quite a nice place to pitch up.

Relatively busy spot. Campers down the end seemed to be locals and made sure to whistle every time I walked pass them to the toilets. Toilets weren’t great and woke up in the morning to find both seats in the women’s were covered in urine, as well as the floor and according to my boyfriend, it was the same in the men’s. A few other campers were also parked up, which was good as around 11 pm a car pulled up playing very loud, heavy dnb and flashed it’s lights three times which signalled another car to pull it. Quite obviously some kind deal was going on and they stayed for around 45 minutes with their music blaring. They did leave luckily and we were undisturbed for the rest of the night. Woken pretty early by the chickens. Then a couple of guys pulled up and offered to sell us some drugs. Was an interesting night and we were quite glad to get out of there.
