This is an amazing hidden gem. Beautiful spot next to the water away from busy streets and car parks. A few people jetting off with their boats at the wharf, so good to watch. Flush toilets open all night and were clean enough. You can fit 6 in there comfortably, or 8 with a squeeze. Can’t complain about this spot. One of our favourites.

A great place to stay that is suitable for Motorhomes. We have found many freedom camping spots can only accommodate cars or small vans. You can fish from the wharf, watch the boats coming and going or be entertained by stingrays swimming in the shallows.

Can’t believe this place, arrived and looked great triangle area under trees. There were campers all squashed in corner and giving us funny looks. We ended up working out you're only allowed in one tiny corner so not much room and if too late all gone. Not room for more then say 6 campers. It’s crazy, someone does not like freedom camping their and pushed them all into a corner!
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Awesome peaceful spot, nice clean loos (with paper) dogs welcome and the area is a dog exercise area, so ok off lead.

Great location, looks ideally placed for sea kayaking some of the rocky coast just north of here, easy to find just keep driving through new housing area. Toilets, BBQ points (total fire ban at the moment). Ideal for boat launching and sea kayaking.
View of the sea and mountains.
Luckily we got here at 5pm and took the last spot, though I'm sure with 20m x 10m area vans could go in the front of parked vans.
Company of other freedom campers was amazing, this really is what it is all about, switch off the TV and sit outside chatting to new people, no matter what their language.

One of the best sites visited, and free! Quiet, and had the place to ourselves. Public toilet (flushing) on site which is cleaned daily. Could be busier at weekends and in high season with boat launching by local fishermen, but this would add to the interest. Pleasant walk along estuary to spit at river mouth.
