Easy access Freedom Camping in the Wairarapa.

Henley Lake is situated just off the highway but is very quiet with excellent facilities. It provides freedom camping for self contained vehicles in a great setting, close to the city. Note you must park on the sealed area. The toilets are closed at night.

Quiet campsite next to a pretty lake. Not too close to busy roads. Lots of geese and ducks in the morning! Toilets in the car park, however they close at night so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to go. Sign states the time the toilets will close. No dump station

29Sept18. Stopped here for lunch and had a walk round the lake. A great little place. A few parking spots long enough for our 7.7m motor home.
Toilets ok.
Would have done an overnight if it fitted in with our plans. Have bookmarked for our next trip.

Beautiful spot on the lake front, very quiet and peaceful. We had only one other fellow camper to share with.
This carpark may be a bit of a boy racer area on the weekends - we had a few show up before midnight but were quiet enough and left after sitting with their lights shining at each other for about half an hour.

Very pleasant place to watch walkers, kayakers, paddlers, dog people and aquatic birds. A good walk although watch for bird droppings. By contrast the dog people are told to do the right thing and they appear to be doing just that. Clean toilets but closed at night.

Very picturesque. Swans and ducks on the water and rowing and dragon boat training going on while we were there. Park in second carpark beyond the rowing shed, as locals come and go at all daylight hours running, cycling and walking dogs. It will be quieter for you then.

Nice overnight camp site on hard stand right by the lake. The showers & toilets are locked at 7pm & re-opened again at 7am next morning, so if these facilities are required keep that in mind. The shower does not have a door & shower tap is missing, so couldn't use anyway. Otherwise a good free camp. We bought our evening meal supplies at local supermarket. I feel it's good to give back to local communities who offer free camps.

Had a great parkover recently at Henley Lake on the edge of Masterton. Beautiful spot on the lake edge. There are several pretty walks around this lake and the nearby river. Good hard stand parking in the carpark near toilet block. Ideal for self contained motor homes. Well done Masterton.
