We spent one night here last night, as did around four others, isn’t it funny how we will squeeze next to each other, haha.
Plenty of space. All day free parking on weekends and weekdays, but if you’re camping there in the week, you need to pay for parking between 09:00 and 17:00. Really quiet night, very easy walk to the centre of town! Bins too! Great spot! Makes you want to stay and spend money in the town, which we did! Thanks Blenheim! Keep it clean! Keep it free! Beautiful!
Second time we’ve stayed here in the past 3 years of our tours and it rained again ha! Didn’t matter though, beautifully quiet and serene. Two others here last night, full phone/TV signal if you need it. Quite bogged right now, so definitely check the ground before drive on it, also take it easy on the road in. DOC campsite pass works here. Just lovely! FB: Tasman Travels

Lovely views, great freedom camp, if you can get in.
Very popular with day users, as it’s a public carpark, with half of it with freedom camping allowed for self-contained vehicles. We’ve been here a couple of times and it always fills up, so may need to wait around to get a spot. Very beautiful scenery, and lovely and quiet at night. Phone signal is intermittent. If you’re in a caravan, don’t be silly and put your step out, or tanks over other parks, it’s very tight and popular, and that’s not really fair is it. Some apps do say no caravans, not sure if that’s true or not, but would make sense. Thanks Wellington!!

Love, love, LOVE Ngawi, and what a lovely freedom camp!
Filled up very quickly the time we were there, so get in early and be conscious of others around you. Beautiful views. Easy access to Cape Palliser lighthouse, loads of bins and toilets too! Thanks Ngawi! Fandabbydozy! FB: Tasman Travels

We spent a couple of nights here whilst exploring New Plymouth.
Really nice, very popular spot, very busy, but plenty of space. Apparently there is an area for non-self-contained vehicles here, but us and everyone else was self-contained. Bins, benches and great place for a jog to the bridge in the morning. Quite a few bogans driving around late in their cereal box cars, but apart from that! Lovely! Thanks New Plymouth! Great spot!
Right next to one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand! It is just a normal carpark so can be quite tight, and does fill up relatively quickly. Decent phone signal, bins, walks, and great views. Toilets are there if you need them too. Keep it clean, keep it free! @tasmantravels

Beautiful spot!
Mighty windy though when we were there. Just added to the excitement! Dirt road in and out in good condition, only three vehicles allowed per night, must be self-contained, no facilities at all! We jogged some of the coastal walk in the morning, was really cool! Keep it clean! Keep it free! FACEBOOK: @tasmantravels

We recently had one lovely night here after completing the Forgotten World Highway.
Nice spot, right next to the river. Quite a few level spaces but quite boggy at the moment. Would definitely stay again! Nice and quiet! Find us on Facebook if you’re out and about! Tasman Travels 8-)

Lovely, lovely DOC Camp, if you don’t need to use the facilities, (toilets were minging!) We recently had a couple of nights here, just one other staying too, loads of space, quite easy for larger vehicles
too! Beautiful surrounds and really easy access to some epic bush walks! We recommend the Five Mile Loop. Full phone signal with Vodafone too! @saltyskin 8-)

What a great freedom camp!!
Thank you very much Masterton! Big car carpark, with plenty of space to spread out. Lovely right next to the lake. Bins, full signal, loos, great jogging area and yes, indoor, free hot showers if you want to save your water. We did, just where your flipflops in the shower ha! Fantastic spot! Because this is here, we filled up, and spent quite a bit in Masterton! Keep it clean! Keep it free! Find us on YouTube if you’re touring Tasman Travels 8-)

We stayed here about two nights ago, and weren’t impressed.
They’re doing work around the park and potentially camping area right now, so everyone parked in the normal car parking spaces, so anything bigger than a car, like us, stuck out, one camper even scraped their van it’s that tight. We experienced a lot of road noise too. They only accept cash for payment and nowhere to pay that either. We couldn’t rate! Great walk in the morning though to Dry Creek Falls.

We recently spent a couple of lovely nights here.
Firstly on a powered site, then on an unpowered on the top terrace, the lower terrace was all closed due to rain. Nice campsite, didn’t use any facilities, close to lots of nice walks. Pay machine dotted about. Nice spot! Find us on YouTube if you’re about, Saltyskin Road Trip

We spent a night here as did one other.
Nice and quiet really, no road noise. Ground wasn’t boggy. Not the biggest DOC campsite but plenty of space this time of year and the walk to the Putangirua Pinnacles was nice to do in the morning. The track really isn’t formed right now though, perhaps due to weather or lack of maintenance, so wear boots and watch your step! DOC Ranger was around the camp this morning. According to the council website this is definitely the freedom camp, no markings nor signs, but website confirmed it!
We stayed a night, was absolutely fine.

We recently had three fantastic, peaceful nights here.
DOC campsite pass is valid here. Perfectly located to get to various awesome walks/hikes and really nice and quiet (when sillies don’t rock up past 22:00 and smash into a rock!) It’s a tight campsite, we’re in a 7metre Sprinter and just about managed to get around. Toilets provided. Little to no phone signal. DOC came round every so often to check people had paid. Make sure you take your rubbish with you people! Find us on YouTube if you’re touring @saltyskin

We recently spent two nights here.
Not a huge campsite but each site is individual which is nice. Little to no signal we found. Toilet provided. Must book ahead, but we didn’t see anyone coming around to check. DOC Campsite Pass is valid here. Find us on Facebook if you’re touring @saltyskin

We stayed just a night, will definitely be back.
We're in a 7metre 2WD Sprinter and took the road slow, didn't have any issues as right now it's in good condition. Some of the time it is very thin though, wouldn't want to meet another us coming the other way. Campsite was lovely, not huge but we found a nice private spot. A lot of hunting going on when we were there. Had a fire, was lovely. No phone signal. Find us Insta if you're touring @saltyskin

What a fantastic experience and great setup!
Definitely worth it! We visited just the other day and did the self-guided walk around the stunning geothermal park area and cave. En-route we realised as we have doing the experience, we can also stay onsite in there carpark for a night in our self-contained motorhome, how awesome and helpful! We decided to stay the night before our experience, and honestly, had one of the most peaceful nights sleep we’ve had on the road ha! Nice level surface, no noisy through road and the stars are view over to the geothermal area was spectacular! In the morning you took a walk into the visitor centre/café, showed a lovely lady our tickets, and hoped on the boat, really quick, easy ride over to the other side. We spent a good hour or so wondering around, taking in the amazing scenery then simply hoped on the boat back over. Couldn’t have been more easy. Big thanks to Nikolos and the team for making us feel so welcome and giving us a great time! We highly recommend taking a trip to Orakei Korako!

Stayed here one night last night, were the only campers.
So, so many cars though with happy dog walkers, was empty after 7pm. Gates are closed by security at 9pm apart from in winter. The weirdest security person though, like he didn’t know it’s a camping area, drove round in circles at 9pm beeping his horn, then banged real hard on our van. When he left it was lovely and quiet all night. Weirdo. Toilets and water fountain some way away from carpark, didn’t use. We did the Jubilee Walk from here in the morning, was lovely. Good for a night! Find us on Instagram if you’re touring @saltyskin Happy Travels!

Just stayed here 1 night last night, only us.
Very different to the campsites at other Regional Parks around this area, we expected a large grassed area, but it's a relatively small gravel parking area, with an epic view, quite unlevel. See photos. Could only fit perhaps 2/3 reasonably sized vans, not caravan in our opinion and wouldn't tow down the gravel road in. Decent walks near by, we walked over to Martins Bay, stunning! Toilets and water fountain down the bottom in the regional park parking. Self-contained only, $16.00 per vehicle as a pose $16.00 per person.
