We left Taupo to sail to the rock carvings on an extremely windy day.

As a result, we encountered huge waves on the lake. Standing on the front bow taking on 10ft waves was amazing. Every inch of me was drenched.

Sailing ship and captain were amazing, good fun, carvings are alright but not as good as I expected them to be - they are not too old!

Sailing around Lake Taupo, even with strong winds I felt really safe.

Maori carvings were beautiful! Crew was really friendly. We could play our own music on the boat's stereo.

After arriving late in the day we weren't sure we would get out on the lake but lucky for us we found Dave about to do a trip and we had the best of afternoons possible.

We got to see the beautiful carvings, steer the boat, feed some ducks on the wing, and gain lots of information and laughs from Dave, an excellent skipper keen for his guests to have the best trip possible. The wind ended up being a bit fluky but he tried and we got to sail for a little while but in the end that didn't matter, we were on a lovely boat, drink in hand, in a fantastic location with a great host. A must when you're in Taupo.

Cute sailboat with really nice skipper.

Wasn't enough wind to sail that day which was disappointing, but the rock carvings were amazing.

    What a trip !

That's how you relax : while sailing on the lake and drinking a beer on the way back ! Just awesome ! And the captain is just so friendly, he even lets you pilot the boat for a while if you want ! Next time I go back to Taupo, I'll most probably do it again ! Thanks captain for a good time ;-)

Fantastic trip and such good value for money.

Dave the skipper was such a laugh and full of local knowledge. I even got to "man the helm". while the 10.30am sailing meant I passed on the complementary beer my wife had no trouble with her wine.

A truely memorable wind in the hair experience.

Cheapest way to see the Maori carvings on Lake Taupo, free drink included.

Very relaxing swim in the lake also possible, just a small number of people on the boat.
