  • An excellent location with the beautiful blue lake as the backdrop!

Facilities are clean and kitchens easy to work in. Easy to drive to multiple sight seeing musts such as Mount Cook. Also close to star gazing opportunites at night. Would loved to have stayed longer and will definitely return.

Was disappointed we didn’t get a view of the lake (we were up the back of the park), but not far to walk down to the lake. Facilities were well managed too

  • Up there with one of the best sites I’ve stayed in 3 months travelling round NZ.

Firstly $30pp per night for a powered site in a tourist location like this is great, soo nice to have a solo rate, thanks.

You can walk anywhere and everywhere, to the lake, into the village, to the church.

Bathrooms are spotless and showers were hot and spacious.

Lots of ducks and birds around the site too.

Quite packed in, but enjoyed having ducks and rabbits for company. Facilities are clean, fresh and good quality.

  • Positive: Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, clean toilets, a nice BBQ area, and great hikes nearby.

Negative: It’s a large campground, so it can feel crowded. The nights we stayed, there were people making noise until past midnight. Also, the toilet ventilation fans are very loud and run all night—you can hear them almost everywhere in the campground. We also noticed constant noise from the nearby swimming pool (a strange sound throughout the night).

Suggestion: If possible, the owner could switch off (or reduce) the toilet fans after around 10 pm to make the campground much quieter for tent campers.

Overall: I wouldn’t recommend this campground if you’re in a tent and looking for a quiet night.

  • Good place to stay to recharge, dump & shower.

Access to the sites are through a boom gate, you get given the unlock code on payment.

Flat sites in view of the lake, can pay more for a 'Lakes edge' view which just means you don't have anyone in front of you - still 100m or so from the actual water but you are uphill.

The showers are on an 8 minute timer (I really don't get this given access to water is clearly not an issue), but they're clean & well maintained.

  • Most amazing caravan park we’ve stayed at!

We had a powered site block 39, clean and close to amazing facilities with a great view of the lake and mountains. The staff were lovely and extremely accomodating. Highly recommend. When you stay here you get 10% off the hot pools too that are worth it !

Other than that, internet is crap. Those are the negatives, the positives were the view, location, facilities and friendliness of everyone there

  • I was right up the top, views across the lake to the mountains were awesome but the wind and dust was ferocious!

A small hill climb to get from my site to the facilities but I would do it again.

They very kindly applied a single occupancy rate when I asked- not advertised on the website and very much appreciated.

The bathrooms were modern and clean. 6 minute timer on the shower was a bit rough but I understand, otherwise the shower was great so at least it’s a quality 6 minutes! The kitchen was well set up but not big enough for the demand, even when the campground was at half capacity. I didn’t cook in there as there simply wasn’t space.

  • You pay top dollar for the view not the site.

I was there peak season. Small pitches, kitchen was rammed with people, showers were tepid. I was a

fair way from the nearest water too. You could park by the lake and enjoy the view for a few hours instead.

  • Good place to stay if you want to do a night tour at Tekapo springs (highly recommend!

:)) as you can just walk there.

Great views but it’s very pricey for what you get - they surely know that they are the only campsite at the lake.

Not enough facilities for the amount of guests, we had to stand in line to use the toilet in the morning or to wash our dishes after dinner and everything gets dirty real quickly as so many people use it.

The showers have a timer and a two minute break before you can get hot water again which is really annoying if you want to wash your long hair.

The sites are really close together and from a lot of them it’s a really long walk to the toilets (longest we ever had at a campsite).

All in all an average and overpriced campsite, you pay for the location.

  • The staff were friendly and fitted us in to what seems to be an overspill terrace on the left before the main campsite.

If I had seen it before paying I would have gone elsewhere. There is barely any grass left on the pitches in November (so it will be a complete dustbowl by summer)and a dirt road through the middle so the minute anyone moves or the wind blows there are clouds of dust. Add the highway above the site into the mix and you have a recipe for a bad stay. My van is full of dust and I am leaving asap. The facilities and the view are good but cannot be enjoyed because of the actual site.

  • Expensive for what it is (prob the most we’ve paid for unpowered site).

Not enough facilities for the amount of spaces available (only place so far I’ve queued 10 mins for the toilet), Wi-Fi patchy. Was clean, and well maintained, but money for what you get felt a bit like being taken advantage as there’s so little places to stay in Tekapo.

  • WiFi seems to be better compared to previous reviews.

Showers and toilets stink but look nice and are very clean despite the smell. The showers are still 6 mins of hot water then you have to wait 3 minutes before you can get another round of hot water! Although no longer have to expose yourself to press this button - it’s in the little cubicle. Washing is $6 then another $6 to dry… construction is going on at the moment (Jun 24) so don’t expect much peace and quiet throughout the day. The unpowered sites are on muddy patches. All in all $27 (unpowered pp) isn’t too bad for showers, wifi and flushing toilets. I think you pay more for the location and stunning views.

  • Definitely not worth the money.

The wifi is totally bad (if it works at all), there are not enough showers, the kitchen is far too small for so many guests and basically there is nothing to justify the very high price. Limiting the showers to 6 minutes is also outrageous. If you have to wash long hair it easily takes you longer and then you stand in the cold for minutes before there is hot water again. The operators want to earn as much money as possible without offering a corresponding service. Not recommended.

  • Large campground with 260 sites.

Sites are small and close together. If you want a view the site depends on your vehicle length - long vehicles might be out of luck. Tekapo is super popular so you will prob need to book.

Facilities are OK but not nearly enough toilets and showers. There's only three blocks, and our nearest was unisex with just three toilets and three showers.

The kitchen isn't big - six cooking stations and just four or five sinks, although there's also an outdoor BBQ area.
