Very nice Kiwi-owned campground.
The facilities are great: clean, good hot showers, and a well-equipped kitchen. The site is quiet overall and the owner is very friendly—perfect stop on the way to Stewart Island.
Just to be honest, there were ducks around at night. I found it lovely and relaxing, but my partner had a harder time sleeping because of the noise.

Positive: Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, clean toilets, a nice BBQ area, and great hikes nearby.
Negative: It’s a large campground, so it can feel crowded. The nights we stayed, there were people making noise until past midnight. Also, the toilet ventilation fans are very loud and run all night—you can hear them almost everywhere in the campground. We also noticed constant noise from the nearby swimming pool (a strange sound throughout the night).
Suggestion: If possible, the owner could switch off (or reduce) the toilet fans after around 10 pm to make the campground much quieter for tent campers.
Overall: I wouldn’t recommend this campground if you’re in a tent and looking for a quiet night.

You really feel like you’re in The Lord of the Rings here.
Mount Potts Lodge is very close to Mt. Sunday, where Edoras (Rohan) was filmed. The campsite has basic but clean showers and a great outdoor kitchen with a BBQ area. It’s in the middle of nowhere, making it a peaceful and relaxing spot. Perfect for stargazing at night and being among the first to visit Edoras in the morning. Even the drive there feels straight out of the movie. Some spots are uneven, but we just used a stone to level our vehicle.

The campground is green and beautiful, positioned right next to a beautiful lake with walking paths.
Toilets are clean, and showers water pressure is amazing. There are multiple kitchens, bathrooms, and lounges all around the territory. It does get quite busy as the camp is big, and there will be many other camper with you. That being said, there is enough facility to accommodate everyone, it just won’t be very peaceful in the evening.

Amazing location right by the beach.
Everyone has their own allocated place. Small camping but very good facilities, very nice commun place in an old renovated school, good kitchen with everything you would need. The waves are not to noisy.

The only advantage of this place is its location.
Beautiful mountains around, and picturesque route that leads to it. The camp has no shower or kitchen but a common place to sit. There are hundreds of people, and everyone is sitting on top of each other. As a result, toilets can get quite dirty, there is also no lights in them (meaning you’ll need a flashlight to move around). Cars keep arriving till 11 pm and start leaving at 5. With this amount of cars, it can be very noisy too.

Very nice camping.
Clean toilet and shower, however you might need to queue because not many available. Small place but big enough to cook your dinner. Pitty is not a commun space for eating that can be quite annoying if it rains. You have access to the thermal pool. It is especially good to go early morning. The camping is really quiet. Better to book in advance.

Very good camping.
You are located in the middle of the national park with many amazing hike accessible. It is a cosy camping with your own place separate by trees. It is very quiet. Shower and toilet clean and enough to not to need to queue. The commun place is warm and fully equipped that is very useful especially as it can get cold in the morning. You can use the Tongariro National Park shuttle for booking the shuttle bus from the camping main entrance (need to book in advance). Overall almost perfect experience.
