A boutique style holiday park centrally located in the Marlborough Sounds.

Smiths Farm was developed in 1997 by Chris and Barbara Faulls. Situated on Barbara's family farm, guests can relax and soak up the sights and sounds of paradise or opt to explore the wonderful local area.

Wander through the farm to the bush walk that leads you to a big waterfall. Try our night time adventure and visit the glow worms in their magical dell. Feed the pet animals and just enjoy being in the country in a unique part of NZ.

Just 3km away at Anakiwa is the start of the Queen Charlotte Track. Talk to Chris and Barbara about options for walking, mountain biking or kayaking on the Queen Charlotte Track or in the Queen Charlotte Sound itself.

Take a mail boat cruise, hop on a scenic cruise or a mussel cruise or pilot your own boat at your leisure.

The Waikakaho Walkway is also just a few kilometres away and you can explore the old goldmining area of Cullensville.

If that doesn't take your fancy, then drive the 40minutes to Blenheim and either self drive around the many vineyards and attractions or hop onboard a guided tour. Sample some of the amazing fresh food at the many excellent restaurants and cafes or visit the Saturday artisan's market or the Farmers market on Sunday.

This is the best paid campsite I have been in the whole of the south island. Seriously. Free muffins(they were good!). A whole bag of food to feed the farm animals. Everything is clean. Host are so nice! The walk to the waterfall was great. Standing right under the waterfall was amazing. And there are so many glow worms in some areas (even more than those other free Glow worm walks I did). Simply the best.

Beautiful place! Very friendly staff, very clean, super cute animals, free and delicious banana muffin when you check in and food for the goats and sheep. I couldn’t resist and gave all my carrots to the pigs! The only thing, as other people already said, it would be ideal to install more bathrooms. Other then that, it is a perfect place to spend a couple of days.

What an amazing welcome we had to our stay at Smiths Farm.

We were presented with fresh baked muffins on arrival, as well as a free upgrade to our room. The service was incredibly friendly, and informative, giving us ideas on what we could do during our stay.

Our kids loved feeding the animals on the farm (you are given a free bag of animal food on arrival) and the walk up to the waterfall was spectacular. Beautifully clean cabin and so very well equipped.

Heaps of space, and a nice little park on site. The school pool which is available for guests was an added bonus but the beaches at QC pass were so close by too. A wonderful stay. We'll come back again next time with our tent to stay longer.

Friendly, helpful and warm welcome (free and warm banana muffins!!). Encouraged glow worm walk with helpful hints on other available activities. Allowed us to use Rangers discount even though we could not find the coupon on our phone (thank you for trusting us). Facilities were kept very clean - I think she cleaned twice a day and the campground was not even full! Overall a wonderful experience!

We've been to many campsites on North Island but this first stop on South Island is as good as any - if not better. Very kind and welcoming hosts, taking time to show you around, give you info and advice AND offer lovely muffins!
Hands-on option to feed the animals is great and the 'secret' path to the waterfall feels like a treat.
Kitchen and bathroom areas - nice, clean, facilities.
If only all campsites were run this way...

By far the best place we've stayed on the South Island.
We were greeted on arrival with hot muffins and food to feed the farm animals as well as a map to walk up a beautiful forest walk to see the glow worms.
When I went with my children to return the basket the muffins were in they each received a balloon.
Simply a must do if you are travelling in the area with a young family.-

We stayed here in a self contained campervan the night before catching the ferry, for which it was ideal. We much appreciated the warm muffin and sheep food on arrival. We arrived just in time to walk up to the waterfall for dusk and to see the glowworms, which we enjoyed. A torch and sturdy footwear were essential. The tail end of a cyclone went through overnight. In the morning the pitches were wet and muddy, but we had no problem getting off or accessing the dump station.

Smiths Farm Holiday Park - Havelock responds:

Hi Alan,
Like the previous reviewer, you also experienced Cyclone Cook which dumped some serious rain on our little valley. We are pleased that despite that, you managed to get up to the waterfall and to see the glow worms which are stunning at the moment. Some of our sites have been affected by the effects of the Kaikoura earthquake (residual liquifaction which we originally assumed was just a small spring) and it is only now that we are able to see that these problem areas add to the wet muddyness. We are trying to address this but it won't be fully solved until after winter sadly.
We hope that you enjoyed the ferry trip and that the rest of your holiday was wonderful. Kind Regards, Barbara and Chris

Lovely spot. We arrived late at night and in torrential rain. Too wet to tent as planned with the area hit by the edges of Cyclone Cook. Our hosts went out of their way to sort us into a cabin overnight. Cabin was warm and clean. A fire was burning in the common area, and we were welcomed with a little basket of fresh, warm muffins. Will definitely be back to stay longer, in our tents and the sunshine!

We hope you managed to find some sunshine and that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday. Kind Regards, Barbara and Chris

We were on our way to Nelson and need a stop over as our ferry got in later. We were just planning to pop in, sleep and head out. We were warmly greeted when checking in and felt very welcome (warm muffins go a long way). After arriving, we considered staying another night to explore the area, but the timing didn't work out -- next time.

The place is spotless and compared to other parks we've stayed in very roomy (doesn't feel like a parking lot). We met several friendly families and overall the place had a very good feeling to it.

Highlights for the kids were the animals on the farm and the hike to the glow worms at dusk as suggested by the hosts. A bag of feed was also provided for each child at check-in. With three weeks in our campervan, this was an unexpected highlight for all of us.

Great value for the price and amazing hosts that made you feel like family, even for a short stay. Highly recommended, especially if you are travelling with children.

Thanks,
-Jason
