I stayed an extra night, because this place has that homely feel you sometimes miss when on a long journey.
Barbara is incredibly kind, facilities are clean, updated, and although smaller, completely sufficient.
The glowworm walk is absolute magic.

25$/pp for non-powered SC car, paid showers.
Local’s hidden gem
WiFi alright. Only few campers mid Oct.
Feels like local’s hidden gem. Kind and accommodating staff, calm atmosphere. Well equipped, updated and shining clean facilities. Would’ve stayed longer and just rested, if I knew! It is in town, but not right next to a road, so there is some road noise in the distance, but nothing too disturbing.
Felt very safe as solo fem :)

Looks much better than anticipated.
Close by are lovely walks with swing bridges. Short walk to picnic tables with beautiful trees for breakfast. The showers aren’t great, but they are clean and free! Locals are skeptical towards young travelers, as the site has been destroyed and rebuilt few months prior, so be extra nice. We were told it might get closed/paid at some point.
Be aware, some locals come here to have a shower in the evening. I had no trouble though.
3 other big campers with senior kiwi’s, felt safe, but wouldn’t stay longer.
Oh and please do make a stop at Shanji’s for a beautiful masala chai, a hug in a cup. ❤️ plus the best quality spices for the best price.

Full by 7pm, most people arrived before 5pm.
A bit windy, but that is to be expected. An entry to a walk, toilets cleaned in the evening. Felt safe for solo fem.

Came here for a hike, so very convenient to be able to stay a night.
Beautiful site. No reception, toilets could be cleaner, but not too bad.
Very large area, so plenty of space to find your nook. Felt safe for solo fem.

I ended up staying an extra night, because it felt so lovely.
Absolute gem
For 8$pp this place is incredible. Huge camping ground in beautiful spot by a river. Clean facilities, with cooking corners and dish sinks. Just another one or two campers mid Oct. Felt safe for solo fem.
Rivendell just there is a bonus of course, but don’t skip the swing bridge walk, there are some of the most beautiful Rimu’s I’ve seen.

Was lucky enough to stay here on 12Oct before closed till Dec.
Completely full by 5pm.
Lovely view of the lighthouse, right on a beach, starry at night. Bit sandy. Only two toilets open overnight, clean-ish. Felt safe for solo fem.
