WELCOME TO CANYON COUNTRY
EXPERIENCE QUEENSTOWN’S BEST CANYONING & CLIMBING ADVENTURES!
Canyon Explorers are the most experienced canyoning operator in the Queenstown region, guiding customers through our canyons since 1998 and climbing since 2003. Let us take you on an adventure through stunning New Zealand landscapes and through wilderness areas which are otherwise inaccessible.
The roots of our love for adventure started for one of the owners back in the 1960’s, when his father was climbing with Sir Edmund Hillary and alpine guiding in the Mount Cook National Park. As a young boy, listening to tales of high adventure being shared by Sir Ed and Tenzing Norgay with our family, inspired a passion for adventure that has never waned.
We are proud to have been sharing our adventures with visitors to the Queenstown region for over 30 years and our goal has never changed – to deliver outstanding adventure experiences.
Our guides include New Zealanders and a United Nations of adventure professionals from around the world. They hold a variety of outdoor qualifications and have a vast amount of guiding experience – as well as being great people who enjoy sharing our special places.
We are the longest operators of canyoning (1998) and via ferrata climbing (2003) in the region.
We are proud to contribute to local and community activities that promote education, conservation and environmental sustainability in the areas that we operate.
Canyon Explorers are part of the Adventure Group of Tourism companies.

Well organised.
It took about 3.5 hours.
Excellent adventure but over much too quickly.

Defo too expensive!!
Even if you are spending the whole day in the canyon it is too much. One time is enough, even if it was heaps of fun!

We did the Routeburn Canyon - canyon in awesome scenery and very wild.
But canyon very short for the price.

We canyoned at Routeburn Canyon.
Good fun sliding, jumping, abseiling down the canyon. Staff good, helpful and made sure everyone was okay. Really good day - only thing stopping it being 10/10 is cost of photos/videos afterwards. It is an expensive day anyway.

Did the Routeburn Track, great adventure and was scared all the way but loved it and would go again.
Instructor very helpful. Photos to buy very expensive and no deal for couples or groups.

It took about 3.5 hours.
In the canyon we were for about circa 1.5 to 2 hours. Had the maximum group size of 12 - was really a lot - long waiting between actions in water, guides were great, canyoning was fun.

Exciting trip with 12 people and 3 guides.
We took the half day trip for $180, we had lots of fun, but it would be better with less people.

Wonderful experience bouncing about in the river.
Excellent safety and great spirited personnel! Only thing we missed was a BBQ at the end. Which might be a tip on future variations of canyoning.

Half day trip.
Gave us all necessary equipment. The two guides were excellent. No problem for novices but they did stretch you. Very varied activities. Felt totally safe.

I did the 12 Mile Delta (Half-day) canyoning and really enjoyed the experience, there was room to go crazy and take it easy!
Worth the money and 2 hours was just long enough to love it and not get sick of it or freeze your limbs off.The big turn-off? Photos are ridiculously expensive, low quality and some people were photographed and filmed more than others (which felt a bit unfair?).

Of the 8 canyoning trips I've done, this was my least favorite.
The canyon, as well as the jumps/slides/etc., are very good. The major problem, however, was that 19 people booked for the morning trip. For my group of 10, we had 2 guides. It felt more like cattle being herded through the canyon. We spent a lot of time standing around. The cold weather was compounded by the fact that your muscles went cold just standing there.

Great fun!
As suggested in the activity guide - something for everyone - yo don't need to be super adrenalin fuelled to go for it but jumping 10m into a plunge pool (optional) is pretty awesome.
