If you are considering travelling on New Zealand’s South Island, a campervan from Sunrise is the way to go. We recently completed a 4-week tour on the South Island in Sunrise Holidays campervans. A key point is that they are completely self-contained, allowing us to freedom camp, which we did several times. The vans were well equipped for fall travel, with warm bedding and an efficient heating system that kept us warm during chillier nights. The diesel vans performed extremely well on the curvy, hilly slopes, thanks to the ability to manually adjust the transmission. We found the van layout to be efficient and we often sat around the front table with the friends with whom we were travelling – this spaciousness allowed us to set up the bed once for the duration of the trip. We can attest that the descriptions of the vehicles and their equipment were accurate.
If you are thinking of renting a campervan anywhere else, you might consider the one thing that we found to be an exceptional Sunrise Holiday attribute – the one-on-one travel planning session. We were travelling as two couples in two separate vans and had made an extensive itinerary. We shared that with Cymen (who truly knows and loves his country), and during our consultation with him, we received suggested improvements, tips on things not to miss along the way, and options for things that suited our style of travel, all delivered in a friendly and enthusiastic manner.
We were completely impressed with the entire experience, including our first inquiry, the consultation with Cymen, the comfort and efficiency of the campervans, support from Kate while touring, and the ease of drop-off. Well done, Sunrise Holidays!

We chose Sunrise Holidays for our 2 week campervan trip after reading reviews and considering price and van design.
This was such a great decision! The personal attention and assistance with planning was wonderful. Pick up and drop off was super easy, and right near the Christchurch airport. The Mercedes Sprinter van was in excellent condition and handled the steep and winding roads with ease. Although we didn’t take advantage of it, Sunrise offers free consultation with Cymen Crick, main honcho at Rankers app, regarding trip planning. Since we started planning more than 6 months in advance of our trip, we were able to get very reasonable pricing.
We had an absolutely magical vacation, and Sunrise Holidays played a big part in making things eun smoothly. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We booked our campervan through Sunrise Holidays, after seeing some steller reviews on their service.
That said, we had quite high expectations of them. And they still managed to beat those expectations and deliver an absolutely amazing service! Everyone on their team we had contact with were very helpful and professional. And included in the package was a planning session with Cy (which turned into two sessions as he wanted to make sure we had time to talk through our entire itinerary in detail). We cannot overstate the value of these sessions. Even though we had read up a lot on NZ they added so much value by suggestions on things to see and do that we would never have found by ourselves, on amazing campsites and wonderful walks and activities we could do with the kids. So if (when!) we go back to NZ we would not dream of booking through another company. Thank you Cy and the rest of the Sunrise Team!

The van was spotless and well appointed, but most impressive was the personal touch Cy offers in making recommendations of where to go and what to see, given an understanding of our personal background and wants/needs. Sunrise Holidays organised a 6 berth motorhome for a 3 week trip for our family of 4 adults.
There's a great deal to consider and plan, lots of information to gather. The service from Sunrise was invaluable in this process. Communication and support were excellent. I had many queries and Sarah's responses were swift, helpful and comprehensive. It was a personalised service. We were allocated a brand new motorhome. We didn't have any issues but I was 100% confident that Sunrise would respond effectively, which gave us confidence on our trip.

Very helpful and flexible to meet our needs. They even checked in during our trip to make sure everything was ok. Cy was also a great help planning our route. Our initial call was followed up with several other email conversations to put together the best route for our interests.

Just finished a two week rental with Sunrise.
Campervan was flawless. Handoff and service was great. I’ve rented campervans before in several countries, this was by far the best overall experience.

As someone who's lived in a van for 2 years, I felt the only thing I was missing to prepare my trip was a local's perspective.
Cy offered a complimentary session to help walk me through a potential route, despite having no concrete plan. The general route was more beautiful than I imagined. With the extra context, I felt comfortable enough to take some minor detours as I settled in, and the phone app helped greatly.

Nothing but good about Sunrise Holidays!
Sarah and Cy are amazingly friendly and helpful. Our talks with Cy prior to our trip helped us a lot in planning the whole trip, and during our travelling he was available for itinerary questions and he responded pretty quick. We couldn’t have wish for a better and personal organisation of our roadtrip! Highly recommend them!

We had a great time.
The weather was on our side even with the ferry crossing!
The chats with Cy prior to the trip proved beneficial, especially the tip around keeping ahead of the weather.
Highlights were Milford Sound, Mount Cook, Abel Tasman, Wanaka and Martinborough. We also had a great time at Hamner Springs, Kaikoura, Taupo, Cambridge and Waitomo Caves.
The finale was lunch on Waiheke Island on our last day.
The only downer was the TV didn't work, but to be honest we didn't care, no TV was a godsend!
A big thank you for your support, it was a memorable trip, an experience we will not forget in a hurry!

I would highly recommend Sunrise holidays.
Sunrise were very responsive to answering questions and the whole process of booking a camper was very smooth. Sunrise use McRent campers and they too were very easy to deal with. The camper was clean and in good condition and the quality linen and bedding was provided.

We rented a 6 beth motorhome over a two month period with Sunrise Holidays and couldn't have asked for a better partner.
Not only was the price and communication fantastic, Cy also took a couple of hours to give us all his insights about New Zealand in various calls. So we had a perfect plan before departure and could fully concentrate on family and adventure. When we visit New Zealand one more time, we will definitely book through Sunrise Holidays again!

Sunrise Holidays were the reason that we were able to have the best family holiday we have ever had!
Sunrise were they are quick to respond and the motorhome provided was excellent. What we really liked was how they offered a personalised Zoom meeting with Cy who has an excellent knowledge and experience of all things NZ! Once we let Cy know what type of holiday we were after he took us through heaps of awesome options and advice. This absolutely meant we experienced things that we would have missed out on and avoided tourist traps giving us a more authentic experience. From the best walks, itineraries, waterfalls, glow worms, campsites (free & paid), which supermarkets were best for what and how to tackle the South Island no matter what the weather, Cy's advice was invaluable and gave us the best chance to have a unique excellent NZ family experience. I would absolutely recommend Sunrise Holidays to make sure you get the most out of your NZ motorhome holiday. We had the best family holiday due to their help and when we come back we will book with them again.
