Clean and tidy, the dining room was welcoming and warm, we appreciated it in winter time.
Camp was almost empty and very well located to reach Goat Island. Do not miss the Marine Discovery Center located in front of Goat Island, very interesting to discover the sea life and what researcher are doing there.

Really amazing, it's worth while a stop, just 5 min walking from the road.
A monster tree that I'll always remember.

We expected less from a DOC camp but in reality we found hot free showers, powered sites, and an organized kitchen.
Close to the toilet you can find the entrance of a park walk, we did it in the dark trying to spot a kiwi without success but we saw a small possum. Cover your lamp with a red plastic or the kiwi will never show.

The only DOC camp of our travel and it was really worth while.
We were only few campervans in front of a wonderful beach just few kilometers from Cape Renga. Walking alone on a beautiful ocean sandy beach is really an experience. The camp has really minimal facilities, just a drop toilet and a water tap (not for drinking). Probably there were also some cold showers in a different house but we didn't tested them.

The camp was almost empty, we got a waterfront powered camp site where we enjoyed the sunset over the water.
Free barbecue and a clean kitchen even if a bit small compared to the camp size. A few kilometers away in Pahia you can take a small boat to Russell, just in front of i-Site. Much more better and interesting then Pahia itself. Then in Waitangi we visited the Treaty Grounds and we learned a bit of NZ history.

Amazing place, we stayed for two nights and in one we were the only campers.
Wharariki beach is a unique place even in winter time. We saw a seal with his baby.

Great experience and I'd suggest to use the guided tours starting every hour on the hour.
A maori guide explained us interesting things on geothermal phenomenon and Maori culture. Beside the thermal park you can see an art and crafts center.

The best camp of our travel: clean, tidy, free hot showers, and we also got free washing machine and heater.
Juno is a perfect owner, he showed us his pigs and new born lambs. I wished I could stay longer.

We appreciated the hot thermal pools and the barbeque.
Hot shower are free and you really need them in a cold winter evening. Kitchen needs to be renewed.
I am pleased you enjoyed our natural thermal hot pools this winter. Thank you for your comment about the kitchen. Maintenance staff is looking into how we can improve it.

The camp is located inside a beautiful park and the owner saved our night letting us in quite late, she waited for us.
