Stayed here for one night before exploring Te Anau.
Nothing special but did the job.
North Island ▷ Wellington Region ▷ Wellington ▷
Toilets and running water which was nice.
We arrived at 6pm and it was completely full, so we parked on the street just next to it. Very noisy & full of street lights. Not that close to town, but did the job for the night before getting the ferry. And great that it's free!
South Island ▷ Mount Cook - MacKenzie ▷ Twizel ▷
Very simple facilities (no water / only drop toilers) but oh my goodness, the best views!!
North Island ▷ Bay of Plenty ▷ Tauranga ▷
Incredible spot.
Uses the penny card so make sure you have one before arriving as there isn't anyone nearby to grab it.
Nice little tracks straight from the campsite. We used this campsite as our base for exploring Rotarua.
South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷ Picton / Marlborough Sounds ▷
We stayed here with our little campervan after got off the late ferry from Wellington.
Was perfect for the night before launching into our south Island adventure.
South Island ▷ Kaikoura Region ▷ Kaikoura ▷
Loved it here.
Gorgeous spot by the water with toilets and outdoor showers. You can walk into town along the track or take the track the other way and do a beautiful loop (10km) around the bay. Highly recommend.

Incredible.
Literally at the base of the mountains. At the start of the Hooker Valley track, as well as some other shorter trackers or longer tracks. Great indoor cooking shelter which offered us much appreciated protection from the cold and wind. Lots of picnic tables too.
South Island ▷ Fiordland ▷ Te Anau ▷
Absolutely brilliant campsite for our trip to Milford sound.
Lots of toilets scattered about the campsite. Heaps of campsites to choose from. Nice shelter offering protection from the wind and rain. Nice short trail right from the carpark too.
South Island ▷ Queenstown Region ▷ Kingston ▷
Excellent freedom site, only 30mins from Queenstown.
Toilets clean and in very good condition and lots of rubbish bins. Don't miss the gorgeous sunset over the lake.
North Island ▷ Ruapehu ▷ Tongariro / National Park Village ▷
Beautiful view.
Essentially a large car park (lights a bit bright all night). Uses the kiwicash / penny card. Like the idea of only paying for what you use- showers / cook top / sinks to wash dishes.
