We had the best 2 weeks!
Nick picked us up from Christchurch and offered lots of advice and answered all of our questions. The camper had everything we needed - large comfy bed, good cooking setup and outdoor chairs/table. Would recommend to anyone looking to hire a camper as a more personal experience compared to the larger firms and a more incognito van without signage. Thank you Nick, we’ll be back!

There are a lot of camper rental companies in New Zealand, but if you want a local, top notch, friendly, personal, family-run company then Piwiwiwi is the perfect choice.
Nick and his family are amazing and have gone above and beyond for us on multiple trips and we wouldn't source a camper from anyone else. Their vans are immaculate and the attention to detail is more than obvious. You'll find everything you need provided - cookware, flatware, kettle, french press, linens, etc. The layout and design of the van build is excellent with plenty of storage space and comfy living space. The vans are self-contained under the new green warrant requirements which means it meets the new requirements for water supply, fixed toilet, wastewater system, ventilation, sink, etc. This is important if you want to freedom camp in one of the many allowed beautiful locations across NZ. We own a campervan back home and have rented vans multiple times in various countries and can definitively state that renting from Piwiwiwi has been the smoothest experience and the best, most well-maintained, vans. We think you'll have a blast exploring the beauty of Aotearoa in a Piwiwiwi camper!

I’m so glad we rented our campervan through Piwiwiwi Campervan Rentals.
The van was well designed with bug screens on the windows. The bed was very comfortable and we loved that it was easy to convert the bed into a seating area. The van was tall enough that my 6’6” tall husband could stand up in it. The company was very responsive. Best of all, everything was in top notch working condition and we had no issues.

We loved the fact we were supporting a local family-run business and Nick is an absolute legend!
Van was comfortable, easy to drive and park at supermarkets or busy tourist spots (a bonus), & the van not having advertising on it, as Nick said, did turn out to be a bonus!) – the van has everything you need to have a fabulous time.
Loved the storage space, especially being able to put your bags up high out of the way and as a female I was grateful the van had the best spot to use for toiletry storage space/mirror for the “beauty bar”! The bed was super comfy, and the doona kept us warm.
The fact he provides pick up and drop off is a huge advantage, his warmth, his communications and customer service are first class. His willingness to answer questions and give advice as a local was so appreciated. Nick is so authentic in the way he genuinely cares about his client’s holiday experience.
He made us feel so comfortable after his quality van orientation; we drove off knowing we were going to have a blast! Being able to do Freedom Camping in the van was such a highlight, providing us with some of the best experiences.
I have and will recommend PiwiWiwi Campers to anyone I know travelling to the South Island. Do yourself a favour – Hire a Van from Nick – you won’t regret it. We will be back! The van actually did feel like our home for 2 weeks.

Nick is running a wonderful small business here and the quality of the camper van is top class. If you are looking for efficient, clean, ingenious design this is the model of it. Nick has built out this camper in such a thoughtful, skillful and subtle way. It's a joy to live in, travel with and operate. We had such a great orientation meeting with Nick and the van performed beautifully during our 18 days of adventuring. I rate this experience a 10 out of 10, we're so grateful we found this top quality and hand-made NZ company!

We spent about 3 weeks with one of Piwiwiwi's campervans, and we had an absolute GREAT time!
Perfect self-contained campervan, we had everything we needed and more, we higly recommend! Nick's service is also perfect, easy reachable if we had any questions! Great personal service, perfect campervan, so we give PiwiWiwi 10/10!!

We had an awesome time exploring the South Island in the van.
It’s really easy to drive and the set up in the van is very functional, with plenty of storage, and works perfectly. The solar panels meant we never had an issue with power. We also loved cooking in the van - the set up means you are able to cook inside rather than standing outside (a lot of the other Toyota hiaces we saw had their kitchens at the back accessed through the boot) which meant we could cook in the dry when it rained.
It’s a perfect van for two people. Nick kindly picked us up from the airport and dropped us back also and was always easily contactable should we have had any issues.
Would highly recommend (and have done to family in Aus who have NZ on their travel list!). Thanks again Nick!

Wow, where do I start?
What an adventure! We had such a wonderful time touring around the South Island of NZ in our Piwiwiwi Van! It was equipped with everything you need and the bed is a full Queen size and very comfy so we slept well! When you hire with Piwiwiwi you are hiring from a family owned and operated business, which makes such a difference. Nick was wonderful the whole way from booking, to collecting us from the airport and helping us get to know all the features of the van. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic couple of weeks with our Piwiwiwi van in South Island.
Nick picked us up and dropped us off from our airport hotel, and explained everything we needed to know about the van - perfect for our first time driving anything bigger than a car!
The van was the perfect size for two, and the solar panel meant we didn't need to pay for any powered sites. It easily handled all of the roads of South Island, including a lot of mountain passes and gravel!
The only negative was we didn't want the holiday to end. If we came back, we'd definitely book with Nick again.

Price was very competitive and the van had everything we needed (unlike some companies where you have to pay extra). Nick was very communicative and answered all of our questions. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had a wonderful 3 weeks in our little campervan from Piwiwiwi.
Nick picked us up at our airbnb and then took all the time needed to explain how everything worked (being our first time in a campervan!) and then got on the road. Everything was very well set up, we had everything we needed, we found it easy to make the bed at night and tidy things up in the morning, had plenty of space for our backbags, our clothes, etc. And had found a way of organising everything. We never had any issue with the battery as Nick explained with the solar panels working wonder. We'd do a free or cheap site without power for a day or two and then one with power, but most importantly for us showers, kitchen, etc. to have more space and a little more "luxury". All in all, we drove 3,000 kms I think (?) and everything went well and highly recommend Piwiwiwi.

My partner and I rented out one of the PiwiWiwi campers in September 2024 and set off on the trip of a lifetime around the South Island.
Out of all the campervan companies in NZ, we were drawn to PiwiWiwi as it is a small family-run business and the reviews were all overwhelmingly positive (deservedly so). We were in touch with Nick, who responded super quickly and made the whole booking process very straightforward. With many other campervan companies, there are additional fees if you want things like a converter, outdoor table and chairs, unlimited mileage etc. With PiwiWiwi, everything is included in the base price. The only thing that affects the price is the level of insurance you want.
We stayed in Christchurch the day before our trip and Nick picked us up from our hostel and brought us to collect the campervan. We had a briefing before setting off which left us with all the knowledge we needed to have a safe and enjoyable trip.
As for the van itself, you can tell it was fitted by people who are passionate about what they do and understand what is required to give the best experience to their customers. The van maximised the space brilliantly, and everything had its place. We had everything we needed to look after ourselves including an actual sharp knife in the kitchen and a hot water bottle which worked a treat on the colder nights. All the equipment worked seamlessly and we were able to cook full meals, make coffee and enjoy the views out the back window every morning and evening. The bed was very comfortable and cosy and there was ample space for all of our belongings.
The only thing we would do differently if we were to go again is go for longer. We spent two weeks and wished we had another two by the end. It was honestly one of our favourite trips we've ever done and we could not recommend Nick and all the team at PiwiWiwi enough!
