This reserve is just out of the town of Springfield heading east and is awesome!! It is run by the local community who take great pride in this place, all the money campers pay goes straight back into the campsite maintenance. It is exceptionally tidy and has great facilities, including tennis courts and a cool kids play ground.
There is a big grassy area to camp in and matures to tuck into. There are both powered and non-powered sites. A camp manager comes in a couple of times a day to collect fees, which are super cheap. Instructions for payment…

Really nice old gent greeted us on arrival, cash only $20 for the 2 of us.
Good size area with plenty space to choose from, just worth noting though that the showers take a $1 coin for 4 minutes!!!
Kinda expected the showers were included in the $20 charge as everyone on here raves about how good they are (yes they are great)
Railway runs beside it but didn't bother us at all, it was quiet.

What a wee gem of a place we stumbled upon. Pulled in for the night and ended up here for 4 days. Well maintained grounds with a playground, tennis court and netball hoops. The ablution block is very well maintained, so cute too. Hot shower for $1, washing machine & dryer $$. The cricket Pavillon is transformed into and awesome lounge dining area, with couches on the terrace. A small kitchenette available. There’s another covered in area with seating and table as well by the playground. Fairy lights light up at nights and sensor lights in ablution block. The caretakers are very friendly. There is a dump site just out the gate too. $15 unpowered site a night for us two. We’ll be back!!

Great spot, quiet clean and green. Coin operated showers (coin available from Caetaker) were fantastic, clean and great pressure. Caretaker helpful and welcoming.
We were aiming to stop at Arthurs Pass and pushed on for overnighter here. Kitchen basic appliances.

So disappointed, we arrived at 9pm (after realising we had no cash and so bought dinner in the local pub to get some cash back) we parked up after reading that payment would be taken at any time by the caretaker for him to come over and tell us “I’m not checking anybody in at this time, everyone has a phone, you can go back out the gate” of course we understand it was late, we just assumed from all the reviews that we would be able to just pay cash or settle in the morning, we’d have happily left our passports with him as guarantee but he wasn’t interested! Luckily Porters lodge in castle hill are happy to have us arrive and pay in the morning! Make sure you don’t arrive after dark.

What a great little hidden gem. Fantastic very well maintained site with super helpful caretaker. The toilets are spotless, the $1 showers hot the common room unique .Thanks to the caretakers this little wonderland really ‘lights up’ at night. Highly recommended and will stay again.

What a great little site, it is very clean and tidy. The toilets are spotless. The caretakers are very friendly and helpfully and keep the site in great condition. It is also very cheap at $25 for a power site.

Great place and friendly host. Bring cash (you can get cash out from Challenge service station as you pass town). It was $25 for powered site for 2 people. Kitchen has toaster, kettle, microwave etc. Shower is $1 - very clean and great pressure. Would stay again!
