Information

An amazing place with a friendly vibe, there are lots of little alcoves to put your tent up in. Designated BBQ areas and a short walk to the beach. So well worth the visit!

There are some great walks to do here to the trig and further on to Three and Five mile bay. There are interpretation panels at the top of the trig where it explains the history of the area in the midst of the gold rush when this place was pumping - hard to imaging now.... The walk over the top can be turned into a loopwalk when the tide is low to make it back to Okarito.

Check out the white herons.

Okarito campground will have livein hosts for 2017-2018 summer. Sure to make the experience so much more enjoyable. Prices will be $15 from September. Hot showers $2. Beautiful non treated drinking water. Okarito village uses revenue generated to support a predator control programme on Okarito Lagoon & forest.

Fantastic community run camp ground a paddock from the beach. Recommend trig walk and Okarito kayak hire on lagoon. $2 for a shower. No powered sites here so very cold night when you have no heat.

Good place to stop for a couple of nights. Very good facilities and free WiFi they worked perfectly! Charging point and water point. Good value for money. There’s a nice walk up to a lookout to the mountains and you can also continue on the walk to the lagoon. If the tide is right you can walk back along the beach - but do check the tide.

Lovely site, plenty of space, and (I think) run by the local community, so well worth supporting. Fresh water available on site. Good clean facilities.

Yes it is kind of a parking lot, but sweet hosts and awesome beach fully compensate dir that. Try the ice cream...
