Cape Kidnappers is one of those places that genuinely earns the trip out to it. You're riding through working farmland and coastal scenery on a 4x4, then suddenly you're standing among thousands of gannets going about their business. Nesting, preening, diving. It's surprisingly up close and the guides across the board get consistently good marks from travellers, knowledgeable, good company, and not in any rush.
The 3.5 hour tour moves at a decent pace and reviewers reckon there's plenty of time at the colony itself. The guides clearly know the land well, which makes sense given this is Mr Robinson's private reserve. Even in rougher weather, people have come away happy, which says something.
My pick is to get out early in the summer months when the colony is in full swing. The gannet numbers peak in the nesting season and you'll have the best photo opportunities then. Promo code RANKERS takes 10% off, which is a nice bonus on a tour that most people reckon is worth every cent.
