We joined the last trip of the day and were lucky enough to see six Yellow-eyed Penguins coming out of the sea to return to their nests.
The walk to the hides is about one km long and there are quite a few steps. However, seeing the penguins made it worthwhile.

Small, informative tourist funded charity.
Beautiful land with knowledgeable guides who explain the huge efforts to protect the Yellow Eyed Penguins. Also get impressively close to the fur seals. Very quiet in October, may be busy in Summer.

Great passionate tour, you start in the rehabilitation centre where actually great work on Yellow Eyed Penguins is done.
Then they take you out on the premises to see the penguins in their natural habitat.

We went to see the Little Blue Penguins returning late in the evening.
First, we got a lot of interesting information, then proceeded down to the beach afterwards. It was amazing to see these little fellas arriving and stumbling up the beach! Bring a jacket, it is pretty windy!

Lots of information provided and extensive network of blinds and tunnels allows for viewing wild penguins without disturbing them.
I appreciate the work they are doing with habitat restoration and in the hospital raising the many chicks orphaned this year. Happy to support these efforts with some good words and the admission paid.

Penguins were great!
Downside was french guide, hard to understand and discussed inappropriate subjects for a family walk.

You get to see a reservation for Penguins.
Wandering around in a tunnel, we saw sea lions, penguins feeding their fluffy kids and we got told anything about penguins that you would want to know.

Brilliant.
Great guide and an amazing way to visit yellow eyed penguins, blue penguins and some seals.
We were a small group in the winter, but hugely enjoyed the experience and particularly the local knowledge that came with it.
High recommended and a great cause to support.
