  • The people are very nice, it’s clean.

    But the place isn’t charming.

  • This campground looked like a homeless encampment and junk yard.

Water supply is shared instead of being available at your own space. Dogs run around off leash, chidren are left unattended by parents and loud boisterous talking goes on well into midnight. Everything looks old and run down and overcrowded. We gave them 1/2 star just for the mere fact that they had availability during a holiday weekend.

  • Friendly staff, a quiet campsite with relatively few tourists and a well-stocked campsite shop.

The showers are wonderfully hot, there is plenty of space and the price-quality ratio is the best so far. Especially compared to more expensive campsites where you sometimes even have to take a cold shower. And all this in beautiful surroundings!

  • Old facilities but clean.

Free Kitchen set available at the reception. Hot shower and no sandflies. We didn't went to the lake but its just few meters away.

The camping site is quite a maze with a lot of long time caravans. The playground was really old and rosty.

Ok it's not pretty or new, but that apart it has everything else. Generous sized plots, handy, free and spacious facilities and staff are friendly and helpful.

Cosy kitchen and toilets. Wonderful sky at night with millions of stars. We went to Twitzel for dinner and had a love meal at ministry of work. Nice service at reception with late check out ✔️

  • First impression a bit spooky, as there are a lot of long-term campers there.

Some of the campers look a bit neglected. Not much going on. But that could be because we were there on a weekday in early December.

Showers, toilets and the kitchen were very, very clean. Hot showers can be used unlimitedly. $48 for 2 adults, power site.

We found it great, will be back. Found it very relaxing. Make sure you take milk as they only sell small packets,.

  • (very) old facilities and mainly Kiwi holiday makers and regulars.

Showers good, kitchen has chairs, tables, fridge/freezer, hobs and water cookers but no pots, pans, utensils.

Wifi isn't great. NZD 20 pp is a bit steep for this camp, I think.

  • Good campsite and nice little cabins although the beds are pretty hard.

What is pretty annoying is that the kitchen is absolutely not equipped. The only thing they have are toasters, hubs and water boiler. Pretty useless if you're traveling without kitchen equipment. Other than that, nice people and nice facilities.

  • We stayed again, Dec 2010, what a change, new signage, clean facilities, happy staff, more gravel scattered here and there, Im re-rating this from a 2 to a 7, keep up the good work..

Jan 2009 - What a tip, go anywhere else.

There's acres of safe playing for the kids, the Lake at its doorstep with safe swimming bays to the side and the rowing course nextdoor. A 30min walk into Twizel passes the morning quite nicely. Showers are hot but fickle, everything works in the kitchen and washing machine have a reasonable charge.

But the buildings (except for the new Motels) haven't seen much improvment since they were built in the early 1980s, they are generally grubby, spiderwebed and roughly cleaned out, windows with months of accumulated flyspots, street lighting only half working, potholes get bigger every year, broken supports for watertaps, sun faded signposts etc. The camp shop doesnt cater for anything more than the peak holiday demands, ie no papers, milk from mid/late January.

Fat lazy owners who couldnt give a toss.

Only improvement I could detect for 2008 was free handwash dispenser in the tired shower blocks.

  • I thought this was a joke we pulled in drove around and drove straight off.

One of the worst campsites I have seen in NZ. Looked like a filthy industrial site with long term homeless people living in caravans. Took one look at the facilities before driving off. Tourists need to be warned as this was not how it was marketed on the website with beautiful views of the lake etc.

I wouldn’t recommend your dog staying here. Just don’t.

Camped next to a long term family. No peace. Dogs intruding, kids bicycling in our campsite, 4 wheelers parked on our site. Noisy until 11pm. Facility run down.

  • At first sight this places makes an bad impression.

Entance area is mainly occupied by long term or permanent caravans.

The tent sites are in the back. Along the perimeter there is still some flat and grassy spots. Showers are great. Kitchen is not equipped (apart from hobs, oven, cookers and toasters) but there is a fridge to store your stuff

For 20 dollar per person per night the price is quite high.
