Nice place with plenty of room. Toilets and showers ($2) clean and tidy. Lots of permanent residents in their own area. Dogs welcomed.

Where to start. . .
Carol and George have been soo kind and friendly to us. When we first arrived Carol was a warming welcome, we had previous problems freedom camping in the city centre with loud music in the early hours and it was a breath of fresh air staying at the camp grounds. We first met George walking around the grounds and he has been nothing but a friendly face and a great laugh. The kitchen area was always clean and tidy and so were the showers, there is the internet room to charge your devices for free also. We did get a bit confused on where to park but they are both friendly enough to be ask twice. Don't get put off by the cheap price, the owners are just very kind and helpful to campers. There are a few simple rules but as along as you cooperate all is fine. What was ment to be only a few nights ended up with over 2 weeks and counting. Thank you both for your great hospitality.

We have used this site a few times now and this trip we have used the site in early December when it was very quiet and then 2nd Dec when very busy.

Staff are great at the site with security wandering around during busy periods.

Cheap laundry.

Powered and none powered sites available.

Some full time residents on site.

For mountain bikers there are a variety of routes available from easy gravel tracks to black runs.

Stream close by which seemed popular.

Much as we stay away from big sites this one was very open friendly and no noise.

Campsite near the Maitai River, loads of sandflies therefor. No cellphone reception on the whole campground (spark), WiFi for 5 NZD. Facilities were superclean and the very big place was quite nice under some large trees.

This was our introduction to campervaning and motor camps, and we have to say it was a brilliant introduction. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. The facility,s were great. We only stayed one night, but would have happily stayed longer, and hopefully will stay there again. Price was very reasonable.

We only stopped one night in our hired campervan but found this to be a lovely secluded and wooded site in a small river valley. Carol at reception was very welcoming and informative. Showers and toilets were clean and effective. Good value.

Small sites and lots of rules took the shine of the lovely forest setting. Note: Bathrooms close at 10am for several hours. Pay $2 for 6minutes of shower.

Maitai Valley Motor Camp responds:

Bathroom/laundry/Kitchen in A Block closes for cleaning at 10am until 12.00 for cleaning, there other two blocks close in the afternoon for cleaning. Sorry the camp was not to your liking but the signs around the camp are for the smooth running of the camp. Our sites are all standard size.

We flew by the seat of our pants as part of our “Wing It South Island Roadie”. A couple with a dog, called on the afternoon of our arrival, picked this place after seeing great review on here. Absolutely lovely people, we only stayed one night but could have stayed longer for sure. The place was very clean, great toilets and kitchen. Showers were great for the $2 time limited. We walked up some in the trails was great, nice view at the top. Great to be able to take the dog.

Thanks again team

Thankyou for your kind words, it is great that campers appreciate the effort we go to to make the camp a nice affordable place for any budget travellers. We are pet friendly so your pet pooches are welcome. Due to the birdlife cats are not allowed in the camp.

We came in at pouring rain and the owner got us a site pretty far away from the toilet and kitchen block so we needed to walk trough the mud although we were almost the only ones around. Kitchen was alright but cold on a winters day, because there was no heating and the doors didn't really close. But for only $28 for 2 on a powered site it was alright and you are close to Nelson and the ferry at Picton.

Maitai Valley Motor Camp responds:

All the powered sites are 1-2minutes walk to showers/laundry/kitchen.

It was a beautiful place with lots of trees. It's a great place for families, couples or groups because there is enough space for everyone, including the facilities. The space is also quite cheap: $10 per person with a non sustainable camper or tent. We haven't used the showers, so I can't say something about that, except that is cost $2 for 6 minutes (or a free cold shower). There is wifi available for payment as well. Just arrive before 9pm as the gates close after that. We both loved the nature of this camping spot. The hostess was really nice and helpful as well. Definitely recommend this place!
