Loved the location, easy access to beach and the beautiful town of Russell.
The facilities were top notch. We were lucky that it was a Sunday night and the grounds weren’t busy since the spots were extremely close to each other.

Worth paying for the elevated pitch.
We had a beautiful view of the bay, perfectly level, with water, power and a dump site next to the pitch. This was our first camp on a roadie and it still stands out for its beauty. Showers have a timer and are roomy and clean. Same with the toilets.
A really safe area and I highly recommend exploring Russell and doing a tour of the bay. Food is great anywhere you go. Didn’t notice any bug life but we saw a kiwi (!) and plenty of quakers. This is a fantastic choice for families or anyone looking for a more luxurious stay. Can’t speak to the quality of the sites lower down.

When booking, we weren’t informed of the 150 school kids who would also be staying at the park until after we had paid $64 for the one night.
Got to rush a shower mid afternoon before the kids came back from town. Kitchen was a bombsite and unusable as the school camp had left their food supplies and boxes all through the kitchen and the kids eating times and prep really didn’t help to make the kitchen accessible. Laundry was dated but worked enough with only one dryer out of order. Stayed in a small but nice site on Bayview rise but was a bit of a walk to all ammenities if we were even able to access them. Pet friendly which is a plus but overall this experience has tainted our view on the park and I don’t think we will choose to come back here in a hurry.

We got stranded in NZ under Covid-19 level 4 and 3 lockdown and were so lucky to find this place.
The campsite is beautiful, set on a few levels looking out over Russell & the bays. The staff - AMAZING! They went out of their way to look after us (safely & respecting the rules of course) - we even had a weekly zoom pub quiz! The location is also fantastic, walking distance to supermarkets, beaches & forest walks.
If we come back to NZ, we’ll definitely stay here again!

Bit disappointing to be honest after reading other reviews and staying at other superior top 10 sites and $50.
a night price tag.
We checked out three pitches but all were off level by 2-3 degrees so leveling chocks are required. We have a small well behaved dog. So were confined to the “dog section”. Not sure why when the park and the dog section isn’t full you end up with a pitch next to another vehicles rather than spaced out. During peak season you wouldn’t easily get out of your pitch if you had a Camper van or RV and wanted to leave for the day as no access path / road between pitches they all backed onto each other. We struggled with a van opposite with a kitchen tent and a RV next to us so had to drive over other sites to return after a day out, which wouldn’t be possible if the park was full. The park is mainly open plan with little privacy between pitches. We had a nice view of a roller garage door.
We did ask to up grade to a deluxe pitch as no one else was parked on these sites so didn’t think our dog would be a issue and didn’t mind paying extra but this wasn’t possible due to our dog.
The showers in the ladies one at the far end the thermostat just rotate freely with no heat control, the second shower I only got cold out with any pressure and with the thermostat on hot it dribbles out the shower head. The third shower I tried took a minute for warm water to come through not great when on a five minute timer. Lucky it’s wasn’t busy so I could find a working shower.
Pros good location for Russell township and Long Bay Beach, the staff were friendly.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our trip and it was great.
I paid for the premium site on the hill which does indeed have fabulous views. The facilities were excellent - very clean and well maintained. Great playground for the children and a lovely location - a short walk into Russell and a slightly longer walk to Long Beach.
The only small quibble I have is that the sites weren’t big. They each had their own picnic table which was nice, but a little more space would have been nice.

We loved Russell and the Bay of Islands so much we stayed three nights and really enjoyed this ground.
Like other reviewers, we paid extra for a site at the top with a view which was lovely. The staff here were all awesome - friendly, interested in what we did each day, gave us really great advice and information. The facilities were clean, but I never enjoy the timed showers like they have here and quite frankly for the price of the site it was unexpected and not appreciated. Also the kitchen, while clean, had a very odd smell. Our kids enjoyed the play facilities. It is a short walk into the township. Would stay again but really hope they change the showers!

Hello Scooper, unfortunately, the shower times are here to stay. Russell is regularly low on water and this way we are doing our bit to preserve what there is and ensure the shower lines are nice and quick during our peak periods. Sorry you don't like them, however our intentions are pure and good. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay regardless of your negative shower experience and hope you'll come back and stay with us again soon. We look forward to welcoming you.
