We are a family of 3, with a young toddler under two years old.
This was our first time to New Zealand.
Snap provided a Mitsubishi ASX with a preexisting faulty motor starter. The vehicle stranded our family at 10:00 am on Friday April 18, 2025, a public holiday. We contacted Snap support team via phone multiple times without success. We tried calling Snap’s emergency line- no luck. We tried calling Snap’s 800 service line- no luck. We tried calling the Auckland Airport Snap desk and was on hold and hung up on. We contacted AA, and after several hours, they came to help at approximately 2:15 pm. AA could not fix the vehicle after trying several troubleshooting attempts. AA told us it was a faulty motor starter and left our family at the gas station and told us to call Snap. They said they could tow us to a garage but that all garages were closed due to the holiday.By this time, our child was crying and hungry. We were soaking wet and miserable.

We missed our tour at the Mitai Māori Village. We also missed our evening tour at the Waitomo glow worm caves. We will never get this time back. We also can’t get refunds for either tours. We had to get back to Auckland for a flight and hired an Uber.

We booked a car through Booking.com and opted for full coverage through a third-party insurance.
According to Booking.com, we only had to pay for an extra driver and snow chains at the counter. However, at Snap Rentals, we were charged for their insurance cover and the extra driver, despite showing proof that we had third-party insurance. They didn’t even have the snow chains when we had requested. Why even put it as an option and if not why not try and inform your customers ahead of time so they can make other arrangements!
After we left the counter and reviewed our payments at our Airbnb, we realized something was wrong. We tried calling them several times but couldn't get through. Eventually, I emailed Snap Rentals with all the details and proof of our booking and insurance. The response was shocking—they said if we had third-party insurance, we should have been asked to pay a $2000 bond. This was never communicated to us! The worst part is that they never clarified what we were paying for at the counter as well.
When we returned the car, we spoke to the same person who checked us in, Hanna. She was completely clueless about their own policies. Despite showing her a screenshot of our third-party insurance, she told us she would have had us cancel it if she knew, but now it was too late because the rental period was over or would have had us pay $2000. We informed her that if we knew that was an option, don’t you think we would have done that instead of having two covers?!?
She also claimed they don't get any information from Booking.com, which made no sense since they knew we wanted an extra driver and snow chains and had other information. She later goes on to say that we had clicked on their insurance at check in. Then I questioned her, saying supposedly if we “clicked it” when we showed you the screenshot of us having insurance through book.com why didn’t you say anything? To which she goes around in circles and says I will have to get the manager.

Awesome team from the helpful staff in bookings to the Team at Queenstown.
They made everything so simple and explained to each customer the benefit's of taking out full insurance. Also to ensure the vehicle is returned full of gas. Awesome shuttle service. I have now used them a couple of times and the customer service i would rank as one o the best i have experienced. Thank you and I highly recommend them and will use them in the future

What out for extra charges.
On dropping of car after hours ($50 fee) designated third party car was showing full of fuel, snap claimed at thier yard it was not full which they had to drive back to from the third party and charged small fuel top up but an extra $29 fee for doing so. Take photos to prove status at dropoff so you don't get caught out like us.

Rented through Enjoy travel and paid up front but when I went to pick up vehicle they said I had not paid.
Over one month later still awaiting resolution having had to pay again.
NO Customer service and absolutely no back up. Now out of pocket over 500 bucks!

Via Rentalcars.com we ordered a stationwagon from Snap in Christchurch.
When we collected the car in mid January 2023 it turned out to be an old damaged stationwagon. All sides were pretty damaged.
We couldn't get it changed or upgraded as there was no other stationwagon available.
During our trip we discovered even a whole in the bottom .
When returning the car we complained about the condition of the car. And showed our disappointment as we did expect a decent car.
The reaction of the Christchurch manager (a lady called Gemma) was simply " You shouldn't have ordered through Rentalcars.com. Their prices are too low, so you can't expect a decent car.
And she said that we had to pay 200 New Zealand dollars to have the car cleaned inside.
After this shameful and insulting treatment it was very clear to us: NEVER AGAIN A CAR FROM SNAP!!!

Wir haben über Discover Cars einen Stationswagen am Flughafen Christchurch auf 13 Uhr gebucht.
Leider war kein Stationswagen vorhanden und es wurde uns nur ein normaler Wagen angeboten in dem unsere Koffer keinen Platz hatten. Die Dame am Empfang war völlig überfordert, inkompetent und hatte keine Alternative, wollte uns zudem auch noch das Depot doppelt abnehmen und die Vollkaskoversicherung auch doppelt verrechnen. Mit über 30 Minuten Verspätungen erhielten wir schliesslich auf unser Insistieren hin einen dreckigen und verbeulten Stationswagen mit 150000km, dessen Scheiben immer wieder anlaufen, auch bei voll aufgedrehter Lüftung und Heizung. Auf Reklamation und Mails reagiert niemand innert nützlicher Frist, Telefonanrufe sind unmöglich (nur elektrische Warteschlaufe),auch wenn das Auto ein grosses Sicherheitsrisiko darstellt. Bis dato machte SNAP keine Anstalten das Fahrzeug austauschen!
