  • This museum has it all.

We saw both the museum and the tropical forest. We spent almost a whole day here.

  • Spacious and comfortable.

This place offers a wide overview of the New Zealand and moreover it is free!

  • It was surprisingly nice, because of the many historic items on exhibition.

The only thing lacking was a good story line.

  • A neat little museum to spend a couple of hours in.

Some of the exhibits did not have the best layout (some back tracking here and there) but still worthwhile. Animal attic at the very top houses some really old taxidermy animals! Very cool!

  • Our kids loved coming here, we spent hours here!

They say it was one of their favourite places of our whole 3-week South Island trip! (along with Queenstown Luge and Christchurch Antarctica Centre and Buller Canyon Jet). Wonderful tropical butterfly house with butterflies landing on you all the time, lots of hands-on exhibitions, so much to see!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this place, much better than Te Papa in our opinion.

Really detailed history of NZ in terms of people and flora/fauna. Well worth a visit!

  • Outstanding museum that you could easily spend a whole day in.

The kids had an excellent time in the Kids Discovery section that had a great range of hands on activities. The butterfly house was like and indoor rainforest with 1000s of butterflies flying around and landing on you. We only had a fleeting whirl around the rest of the museum (the kids wanted to go back to the Discovery Area) but there were some really interesting exhibits including a bona fide mummy. The lunch at the café was very tasty and the kids well catered for with a Kids Lunch Box. Must see in Dunedin!
