The Walks That Deliver

The Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway is the one to do. You can pick your distance, but if you do the full loop you'll get the Pacific views, the dramatic coastline, and more seals than you'll know what to do with. Honestly, if something looks like a bit of driftwood on the beach down here, it's probably a seal. They're everywhere, and you can often smell them before you see them.

Go Up If You're Up For It

The Mt Fyffe Walk is a proper slog, steep the whole way, but the view from the top is the best of the lot. You're looking out at the mountains, the ocean, Banks Peninsula, and on a clear day apparently even the North Island. Go early and only go if it's clear, otherwise you've earned nothing. It's one for the keenos, but worth it.

If you want to get into the hills a different way, there's a 4WD quad bike and Argo tour up into the Kaikoura Mountains that gets great reviews and takes you up above the coast for the same kind of sweeping views. Promo code RANKERS gets you 10% off that one, which is a nice bonus.
