Fantastic internet!!!
We have been here 5 months and this place is the best we have come across. People are great here. Helpful and friendly. It is close to the village. Wanaka is charming! We stayed in the Backpackers which is a three bedroom house!!! Lots of room and a big patio to hang around. Loved it and the price was great.
WOOHOO! We finally have our wireless internet bullet proof! (we think) awesome review, thanks so much!

The park is small, compact, clean and well attended.
The beach is a two minute walk. A good 7km walk along the beach will get you to the Mount. Pleasant place to stay.

Nice, clean and walkable to the village.
Nice to park the vehicle and head into Carterton for a browse and a bite to eat.

Ahipara Holiday Park – Well stocked kitchen, good clean showers and toilets and a large lounge area to spend time.
You can easily walk to 90 Mile beach and stroll down the sand. The free WiFi here simply did not work both times we stayed. They must know it is a terrible service, but are very vague on correcting the issue.

Whangapoua Holiday Park – YES they have powered sites [just installed].
Here is a park that looks brand spanking new. It is impossibly clean and shiny! The owners are lovely and very conscious of making sure you are well looked after. Here is a perfect jumping off spot to travel to New Chums beach for a leisurely day of walking and relaxing on one of New Zealand’s best beaches. Cathedral Cove won my vote though. It is a WOW beach. Hot Water beach is fairly close as well and plenty of fun digging the sand and forming a pool to sit in.

DOC Matata – Standard site close to the beach and wildlife [birds] reserve.
We stayed one night. The lady running the place is a fantastic information expert for the area. Really helpful for our in the area planning. Not a heck of a lot to do if you do not fish. Nice walking from the campsite on an unsealed road that follows the coast. A 600 metre walking track takes you around the reserve area. The metered shower is a hoot. The coin box is on the outside of the building, so you put your fifty cent coin in and run back into the shower. Clean yourself in four minutes before it shuts off!

Parakai Holiday Park – Hot pools are right there and are $10.00 for campers to enjoy.
The park is really clean with a lot of sinks and toilets. Good hot showers and a very clean kitchen. Good spot just forty minutes outside of Auckland.

DOC Tarawera Outlet – The unsealed road is good until the last bit, but still very manageable.
The site is picturesque. The location is right on the lake and has a very nice, not killer, walk to the falls that pop out of a hole in a wall of rock. Beautiful place.

DOC Trounson Kauri Park - Be still my heart!
A hot shower [un-metered] at a DOC site!! Also eight powered spots at no extra cost! Nice kitchen to use as well. The Kauri walk is at the site and is a well-manicured easy walk. What a great place to stay after a long day.

DOC Maitai Bay – Here is New Zealand beauty!
The Doc campsite is your basic, but with flush toilets! Walking the ocean stretch on the other side of the bay was an all day event. White sand, turquoise water and blue sky. On the bay side are twin bays. The Fig Tree Bay track is STUNNING!! A bit tricky to find the start of. Keep walking along in the direction instructed and continue past the house with the flags that says no trespassing [stay on the beach]. Just past you will head up onto the grass and look for the orange marker. Walk up the gully first for the best views while making your way around. Hiking poles would be really helpful! It is steep!

DOC Tapotupotu – Very close to Cape Reinga, and a drive down a fairly steep, but do able section in a campervan.
You can hike the 5 kms to the Cape from the campsite. Steep hills up and down, but on a clear day you can see forever.

Waipoua Forest Campground – Fine for one night.
Clean kitchen and nice hot showers! The powered sites were $20.00 per person [ouch] for basically a parking space in a parking lot. If you don’t have to power up I would suggest not bothering. The area is lovely and it is nice to be so close to the Visitor Center. The Kauri trees to see are stops along the tiny skinny road. Well marked parking and not far off the road. Worth the trip in!

DOC Spirits Bay.
A standard site and was quite windy, but worth the trip in. Gorgeous setting and the bay stretches on forever. The walking track is right at the campsite and goes to the Cape, but you can enjoy it for as far as you want to walk then turn back.
