Little Blue Penguin nocturnal viewing.
Was excellent despite few penguins. Also, were under 50 people on tour, yet tour could accommodate 100. If full, would detract.

Well maintained 3 hour hike through old growth beech forest, beginning of Routeburn Track.
Stunning views above treeline on a clear day.

Well maintained trails and infrastructure (stairs, lookouts, railings etc) and terrific views reward a steep climb on a 2 hour walk.

Large facility with modern interior.
1990s architecture, large visitor/interactive display which was unfortunately dated and felt old. Local school children had poems and artwork on display which demonstrated good connectivity with youth and local community groups.

Gillespies Beach Campsite
12km drive on an unsealed road, (excellent condition during the trip), rewards with a small, free site on the beach.
Protected by dunes. Terrific walks, stunning views of mountains and glaciers, sunsets, washrooms, terrific except sandflies are a nuisance to manage if you are bothered by them.

Excellent facility with picnic area on Lake Te Anau, loads of regional and park information - specific activity guides, friendly, helpful staff, clean and well managed.

Wilderness Motorhomes
We paid a premium price for our campervan rental and felt the initial vehicle provided was tired and had several deficiencies that did not meet our expectations.
After talking with customer service we were pleased when they arranged a replacement vehicle which really improved our wilderness experience. Overall the customer service with Wilderness was excellent, the replacement vehicle top-notch, and we would confidently recommend them to anyone looking for a great campervan rental.

Hooker Valley Track
Awesome, easy 3 hour walk to view Hooker Glacier terminus.
Excellent quality. Stunning views for entire walk, gorgeous on a sunny day in the early fall.
