Very good (safety) instructions.
Great fun to kayak around Abel Tasman by yourself (no guide obligatory), stunning scenery, private beaches, bit pricey $75 for one day.

Good facilities but more suited to people who camp there all summer.
No need to pay extra for waterfront.
