Lovely looking spot.
We were unable to stay because there is no summer camping between 4th weekend of October (Labour Day weekend) and Easter. Right on the water and grass park and playground close by.

What a phenomenal place to camp.
Such a special place where NZ wildlife is priority. I have never been anywhere like it. The bird life at night was incredible. The ridge and lake walks are awesome. It’s like stepping back 200 years. $10 per person per night donation is suggested. Given the conservation work that is being done, it is well worth every cent and more.

Loved our stay here, 2 adults and 3 young kids.
Cathy, the camp manager, was lovely. As it was off-season she said that as a self-contained vehicle we could use the shower and toilets. In peak season, self-contained vehicles need to use their own amenities which makes sense due to the size of the campground. For the shower, just get undressed and wrap in your towel, then pop a $2 coin in and walk just a few metres back into the shower. You’ll still get 1:30-1:45 minutes of a lovely warm shower. Beach when we were there was nice to look at, but not suitable for swimming due to dumping waves and rips.

Lovely location in a carpark near the beach.
3 self-contained vehicles in main carpark and space for a few more along a small road up the area right next to the beach. We parked right next to the fun little playground for the kids. Working, but dirty bbq. Be aware, carpark floods along the hedge line in heavy rain and LOTS of cars coming in and out at speed late at night, including one very noisy dirt bike who did a few laps. Perhaps they were fisherman or just very curious to check the tides at 10 pm. Hmmm.
