Feeling of being ripped off paying 15$/pp at this place.
I stayed in other DOC camps that were amazing and free or cheaper. This was the most expansive DOC camp we stayed and the least amazing of them all. The other camp sites nearby had no vacancy so we were left with only that option. Fair price would be 6$ per person max. Would not stay again and make sure we book somewhere else in advance.

My best memory of all the camps we’ve done!
And for free!!! What a feeling of freedom in this beautiful scenery!!! Toilets are basic and stinky but the scenery makes it up for it. And at no cost you can only appreciate the beauty around you. At dusk or sunset it becomes magical !!!
Ps: we arrived around 5pm was already very full. Some vans left later on as I guess some are just spending the day here.

Good stopover with kids for the animals.
Apart that was nothing special. Felt really empty at our time (Mid Feb), only a handful of residents/employees who seem to live here Year round.

Nice stay.
Sites are well marked! Good facilities, even a wash station with vaccum to give your van a second youth. Helpful staff. Would stay again !!!

Cost 30$ for 24h.
It’s a basic parking lot offering nothing else than a place to park. Toilets are available across the park (5min walk and closed for maintenance at our time). You can find other public toilets downtown (~7min walk).
I would go back again because it’s very central, close to the downtown bars and restaurants and allow you to visit every part of central Wellington on foot.

The area is amazing and you must go there to see the petrified forest, and if you are lucky penguins or dolphins.
Question is if you should stay there overnight what I’m not sure. There is an average restaurant that was not quite so cheap. The toilets by the beach are a joke. The main facilities are quite far depending where you settle. It’s definitely a wonderful spot yet could be improved by the owner to make it a must go camp site!

We passed Cameron Flat camp site but wanted to drive a bit longer.
We then stopped here for the night. Looks less nice than Cameron flat I’d say. A basic rest area along the road. Nothing charming. Long drop toilets. Sandfly apocalypse, forget to have dinner or a beer outside, this was serious sandfly madness. Ranger passed in the morning to check payments.

We spent our last night on the South Island there on our way to Picton from Abel Tasman.
Staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. Camp was quiet at the time of our visit (end Feb). We enjoyed our stay here very much and would definitely stay again!!!

Was our first night in our Camper after pick up in Christchurch.
Beautiful surroundings and tracks nearby. Peaceful, rustic atmosphere in the common areas. Unpowered site. Price was fair! Would go there again anytime.

Our best stay in our 4 weeks across nz.
We really felt at home here. We had an unpowered site that was spacious directly at the edge of the park. Situated at the park entrance you can start your walk into the park directly from there. They sold their own meat what was a nice surprise. They arranged us water taxi. Camp was full but atmosphere was great. Great holiday feeling!!!
