Kelly Tarlton's is a solid Auckland half-day, especially if you've got kids in tow. The shark tunnel is the undisputed highlight, and the Sub-Antarctic penguin colony is genuinely impressive. Not many places in the world have that many penguins in one spot, let alone this far north.
It's not the cheapest outing, and that comes up pretty consistently across the reviews. Worth knowing that promo code RANKERS gets you 10% off the entry price, which helps take the edge off. If you're going with the family, try to avoid public holidays or school holiday peak times as it gets busy and loud in the way only a room full of excited kids can.
The feeding sessions and the moving walkway through the underwater tunnel are both worth your time. My pick is to linger near the turtle enclosure too. Kelly Tarlton started NZ's only Turtle Rescue Centre here and there's a decent story behind it if you take the time to read up.

We recently went to Kelly Tarltons, We had an enjoyable time, going on the train to see the Gentoo and King penguins twice.
Walking around the fish tanks was lovely, so many different species to look at. We didn't see many staff, so were mostly unable to ask any questions. I found the price a little expensive, but we did enjoy our time there.

The main attractions are the stingray tank, the penguin train, and the underwater walkway.
There are better aquarium out there. the stingray tank and the walkway is nothing to speak of, the king penguin encounter is decent, but you are sitting in a closed window train, and the train moved continuously.
