Catleys Campsite
Camp on the river banks, 6 km north of Kauaeranga visitor centre.
Catleys Campsite is a standard Department of Conservation campground situated along the river banks in Kauaeranga Valley, Coromandel Forest Park. Located 6.5 kilometres north of the Kauaeranga Visitor Centre near Thames, the campground provides 30 non-powered sites suitable for tents and campervans. Visitors can access a short historic walk directly from the site. Bookings are required prior to staying, and fires and dogs are not permitted.

Kauaeranga Valley campsite closures
The following campsites have closures in place due to wet conditions:
- Booms Flat Campsite has half of the campsite open and half is closed.
- Catleys Campsite and Hotoritori Campsite is closed for winter.
- Shag Stream Campsite remains closed.

Kauaeranga Valley closure for pest control 19-23 October
Kauaeranga Valley will be closed for pest control from 4 pm 19 October until 8 am 23 October, with the area closed daily between 4 pm and 8 am.
The closed area includes 9 km of Kauaeranga Valley Road, 9 campsites, and 13 tracks. See closure map (PDF, 750K).
This closure is made under section 13 of the Conservation Act 1987.

DOC Standard Campsite
Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

Very picturesque and peaceful.
Nice flat grassy site. Almost empty in early March. Small path down to river...good for a dip after a tramp up to The Pinnacles or round Billy Goat Trail.

Small but beautiful DOC camp with long drop toilets.
There are 8 DOC camps in the Kauaeranga Valley, when you come here, make sure you find the right camp for you. We were here in late November and some of the DOC camps in Kauaeranga Valley had large groups of noisy teenagers. Beautiful nature walks, highly recommended!

River closeby.
Lawn was mowed. Empty garbage cans. Walks close by. Clean and peaceful.
