Catleys Campsite

Camp on the river banks, 6 km north of Kauaeranga visitor centre.

Catleys Campsite is a basic facility campground located on the river banks within the Kauaeranga Valley, Coromandel Forest Park. It offers 30 non-powered sites suitable for tents, campervans, and motorhomes, situated 6.5 km north of the Kauaeranga visitor centre. Bookings are required for this site, which is one of nine campgrounds in the valley. Fires and dogs are not permitted at this location.

DOC Standard Campsite

Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

  • Very picturesque and peaceful.

    Nice flat grassy site. Almost empty in early March. Small path down to river...good for a dip after a tramp up to The Pinnacles or round Billy Goat Trail.

  • Small but beautiful DOC camp with long drop toilets.

    There are 8 DOC camps in the Kauaeranga Valley, when you come here, make sure you find the right camp for you. We were here in late November and some of the DOC camps in Kauaeranga Valley had large groups of noisy teenagers. Beautiful nature walks, highly recommended!
