    Absolutely beautiful spot.

Been camping there since 1984 when there was only one toilet block with no showers and only the one camping area. We still prefer the original smaller area upriver of the bridge. Kelly the caretaker is a cool lady, really helpful, laid back and loves to get to know the visitors.

We stayed in the Kereru campground for 2 nights, the camp was beautiful, right next to the river and bush.

We heard Kereru, Ruru, Tui, Piwakawaka and maybe even a Kiwi. The facilities are quite new, very clean and the hot showers were quite a treat when camping. We arrived late the first night so didn’t see the caretaker until 3ish the next day which meant we missed out on some useful info about walks etc. The kids loved the playground and the camp was quiet enough for them to ride their bikes safely. There was a wedding at the Lodge/camp so that increased traffic, although they had a pretty good party both nights it wasn’t so loud to disturb us even at 4am. We look forward to coming back to explore more in the reserve and do a few more of the walks with the kids.

Stayed here on the 3 January 2017 ......it was raining very hard ....

both camp sites are equally breathtaking.... we managed a nature trail walk in the rain, which was fab. Other camp mates made use of the wet weather 'body surfing' in the wet grass .. looked fun ... was fab to see. All campers were very friendly as was the care taker 😊😊 would recommend it ..

No shops ...just peace and quiet 😊..
