Basic DOC Campsite for $15 pp a night.
Allows dogs which is great. DOC website says space for 10 which is probably accurate with multiple wee pull over spots for you to park up. Some areas are boggy so beware. Toilet is a long drop, but was well equipped and smelt nice.
Has a covered cooking area with a sink and water which is nice.
$15 perhaps a bit steep (maybe $10). But it is off the road and relatively quiet even though it is close to the road.

But it will definitely be nice when it's open.

Great spot nice and clean a shelter a sink and a long drop toilet.
Has reception not heaps of space but enough. Lovely wee creek pretty spot. Far enough you don't really hear road noise. And dogs allowed bonus.

Nice camp spot in amongst the beech trees.
A small amount of road noise can be heard from the nearby highway. Not too much space so arrive early. Lots of beautiful walks and bike tracks leaving from the area.

Lovely doc site.
Basic but clean facilities, variety of campsites scattered around so it didn’t feel busy at all even though it was fairly full when we stayed. Good base for mountain biking. One of our favourites.

Stayed 1 night in September in a Hiace camper van.
There was a small spot on the RHS as we drove in that was relatively flat to park up.
It’s a lovely spot by the river, plenty of birds.
There is a bit of a car park there, but not a huge amount of room. There were no signs to tell you where you could and couldn’t park.
Tidy drop toilet there too.
Could do with some gravel to assist with drainage and levelling the sites (some muddy and bumpy)
Totally empty when we were there, but there were a couple disorganised/thoughtless people who drove In late at night waking us up.
Get to the campsite before dark and be considerate - it’s also much easier to get setup when it’s still light

Lovely quiet spot by the creek, campsites were sheltered and felt remote.
Easy access to the great Helecopter Hill walk with stunning views. More walks around the area too. Toilets werent great. Shelter was nice enough. Great if you dont need the amenities and want to feel secluded.

Nice and quiet site, used a small shaded area, and the Manuka trees were in flower so outside smelt great.
Not so the toilet! Shame.
Also a lot of wasps, just something to be aware of.

Really enjoyed this site.
Lots of spots to tuck your tent or camper van into. Wasn't crowded when I was there so toilet and cooking area were in good nick and clean. Easy access to both the hiking trails and Castle Hill make this spot top notch for those keen on exploring the outdoors. Great price for the location and site.

Nice wooded campground next to a small stream.
Easy access. Not so much space for a van but would be great with a tent.
