This place is very popular with climbers who hang out at Castle Hill. You can camp in a bunch of nooks and crannies. There are spots next to the river, small goves of trees and separate grassy spots, there are even spots across the river, it's a great place for smaller vehicles and tents.
The shame is that because it's so busy, the toilets can be really full - but the real shame is the fact that many people who use this site don't pay. Please do, as it is the camp fees that help maintain the goodness for the others who decide this too is the place for them.
This campsite is located in between the Broken River sign and the Craigiburn Ski Area.

Lovely quiet spot by the creek, campsites were sheltered and felt remote. Easy access to the great Helecopter Hill walk with stunning views. More walks around the area too. Toilets werent great. Shelter was nice enough. Great if you dont need the amenities and want to feel secluded.

Nice and quiet site, used a small shaded area, and the Manuka trees were in flower so outside smelt great. Not so the toilet! Shame.
Also a lot of wasps, just something to be aware of.

Really enjoyed this site. Lots of spots to tuck your tent or camper van into. Wasn't crowded when I was there so toilet and cooking area were in good nick and clean. Easy access to both the hiking trails and Castle Hill make this spot top notch for those keen on exploring the outdoors. Great price for the location and site.

We spent 10 days here over xmas break...we love it! Camped in tent by stream, kids played and we relaxed! Beautiful beech forest and lots of birds...also LOTS OF SANDFLIES!!!! Go prepared! Great base to get to castle hill or cave stream. Definitely recommend!
Nice wooded campground next to a small stream. Easy access. Not so much space for a van but would be great with a tent.
A cold place but really nice - conservation campsite.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
