Absolutely awful experience from the team at Ezicar Queenstown airport!
From the moment I dropped off the keys I was treated awfully.
I have been hiring cars for 25years and usually when I drop off keys they ask if everything went okay and if I had a nice holiday.
NOT BY THESE CROOKS - I was interrogated about the car and told to wait 10mins whilst the car was examined (even though my plane was boarding). When I queried this I was told it was because I hadn’t paid for the extra insurance!
There is no extra insurance just a fee to discount the excess from $3000 to $500.
They then went out of their way to show me a picture of a tiny ‘scratch’ on the underside of the bumper…. Incredibly this disappeared when my husband rubbed the dirt (scratch) off. Suddenly they found another one on the wheel arch. I was told that the repaint would be charged to my credit card!!!!
We had not caused any damage and low and behold when we complained to head office discovered that this was an existing scratch!!!
We were treated appallingly by very young adults that appeared to have a hidden agenda to belittle customers that would not be bullied into paying the excessive additional insurance.
Over and over I was told this was necessary as I hadn’t paid the extra.
In truth if the so called ‘damage’ was really there then I would have still had to pay as even with the additional extra payment $500 would still need to be forked out.

The whole experience was awful I would definitely recommend avoiding this company at Queenstown airport. They managed to completely ruin my holiday.

We hired a Ezi rental from Christchurch Airport. Such a easy fast pick up/drop off service, you can even update your details online if you’re in a rush. Just a two minute walk from the airport to the car. The car was great, nice and new and VERY economical. Lovely service at the counter. I would recommend these guys 10/10!

Given an incorrect contact number for airport pick up, google the company to get another incorrect contact number from the website so we had to get a taxi to pick up a different model car than the one we rented( unwashed & next to no fuel in it) Upon returning the car the guy at the desk alerted us to the fact the windscreen had a new stone chip in it, by using another stone chip as a reference point in his photos to show it wasn’t there before. So they kept the $1500 security deposit(had zero idea that was a thing until we got there to pick the car up) until they had the chip repaired. They have now replaced the already damaged windscreen and charged me $1300 NZD to do so.

Have rented a car from them in Queenstown 3 times.
Great price, convenient, great cars
The only problem was that they used to be 300 metres from the terminal, but now they have a kiosk in the terminal, so I walked straight past them to the old building!
Once I worked that out, it was simple. Really quick to sort out the pickup and dropoff process

Very disappointed with the service and customer service that I received from Ezi car rental. Was in Chch for a meeting (only there for 5 hours). Ezi made me wait 50 minutes for the rental making me miss the start of the meeting. This is not what I would expect of a professional rental company. When I complained I expected a recompense for my inconvenience. Instead I was told that they had a trainee on and will try and do better in the future. It was so infuriating that it has caused me to make my second complaint ever.

Renting a car with Ezi is easy :)!

We did our booking online, the staff was very courteous and efficient and kept in correspondence until our arrival at the airport, with details of how to get the shuttle.

The service at pick up and drop off was very fast and professional. We are world travelers, and could say that our experience in renting a car in Auckland has been the best so far!

Thank you for making it stress free. It has been a pleasure doing business with you!

Our experience with renting from this company was excellent and we will definitely patronize them again on our return to New Zealand. We rented from the Auckland City (Beach Road) location. The employee we dealt with (Stuart) was very professional, organized, pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately we had a small accident with the vehicle (being forced to the shoulder of the road by an oncoming vehicle resulting in damage requiring tire replacement). The situation was handled by the help line people promptly and efficiently resulting in minimal delay in our travels. The vehicle we rented was in excellent condition when picked up.

DO NOT USE THIS CAR RENTAL COMPANY. Dishonest- charged petrol on my credit card they could not substantiate then retracted when I pushed for evidence, saying it was an ‘estimate’. Tried to charge me for a complete new tyre for a flat tyre which was not damaged. The car had chocolate crumbles on the drivers seat and floor on pick up, console was filthy and wrappers in car door tray. In summary, filthy dishonest rip off outfit.

Customer#: 404602, Rental Agreement CA075672, Hiring at Christchurch. This is the first time we were in NZ, in this case South Island

There was a very large black scratch on the side of the car body when we first picked up the car which wasn't in their initial condition report

The Lady who we signed the contract with:
did not explain the risks involved
did not explain that number of roadworks is so high in South Island, the number of roads that we drove through that had loose stones, was so high that eventually an oncoming vehicle caused a stone to fly and chip our windscreen. Understanding this risk, we would have taken insurance without even thinking, instead we had to pay $772.80 for the whole windscreen to be replaced for a single stone chip that looked to be repairable.
did not explain refuelling plan
did not explain any other information/promotions

The pack they provided said isolated chips or pitting on the windscreen is considered general wear and tear.
They emailed if it is just a stone chip that is repairable then they can repair it. If it is too large to be repaired or if it has cracked then it needs to be replaced.
However, none of the employees could clearly show me the size of the chip that makes it not repairable. The only data shown was a photo even though I asked to speak with the assessor who made this statement that the windscreen has to be replaced

The first lady said they had received no email from us initially regarding the initial condition photos, she could have checked the emails first instead of making that comment

the second younger lady who served us acted aggressively and was defending herself instead of trying to assist us.

the supervisor came:
instead of expressing concern, was talking to us with a smile the whole time and we felt that there was no empathy/sympathy
When she was showing us the photos of the damage, we spotted that the number plate in the photo didn't match the number plate of hire car

We hired a ezi car rental from Dunedin Airport l, sadly along with another ezicar customer no one turned up to give us our car, and we were left stranded at the airport with children, even though we could see our booking on a printed list on their ch3ck in desk. A big shout out to airport security who phoned Ezi car HQ in Auckland, to no avail. After a dozen phone calls, no one turned up. Two days later we still haven't heard from the business, even after more phones calls and emails. Nope I wouldn't ever recommend this business, ever!

We rented a vehicle from this place in Auckland Airport for a week. We inspected before and after hiring and so did they. No problems. The NEXT day they claimed that there was a crack in the windscreen and promptly charged us 600+ on our Visa. Several significant problems with this:
- we had no event / accident or noise that could explain a new crack
- BOTH parties agreed at drop off there was no problem or damage
- they billed an enormous amount (on discussion they have since reduced the double up they had on GST)
- time had gone by between drop off and the damage reported (anything could have happened)
- they claim it was just difficult to see and they missed it first time (how many inspections do they get? couldn't they have missed it when they rented it out to us too?)
- Our contract with them was finished on first inspection and closure, yet they charged us without permission after that.

I was going to hire again later in the week but chose Uber instead.

We booked from Germany, rented in Queenstown and dropped it off in Auckland. It was all good as long as we had no contact with EZI. It was a good prize, but not the best car with a high consumption. In Auckland we contacted EZI Car Rental because of the drop off conditions (cleaning, tank etc...). We dropped it a few days earlier and there was no refund what was ok. But we asked them via phone if the car had to be clean and they told us that they would have to clean it anyway. So as long as there is no big pollution -which wasn't- it is ok to return the car a little sandy and not shiny from the outside. We dropped the car with the exact same amount of petrol as we got it, but it was not enough. And it turned out that everything they told as at the phone was wrong. We had to clean it, the drop off was not at the airport as the lady told us and the tank was not full enough. So we had to do this all last minute to get our flight. Otherwise we would have been charged with a kinky fee.

Be aware that there is no refund for early returns.
We find this unethical and non generous, considering they mitigate their loss by renting out the vehicle again.
Car was good and price was good.
Just poor ethical business that doesn’t encourage potential long term clients.

A few days later a package arrives it contained an old phone with a cracked screen that did not belong to me I then contacted Ezi Car again only to be told that it was the phone they found in my bag How it got in my bag is beyond me? We booked from the UK, picked up at Auckland and dropped at Christchurch. We were able to pick up a couple of hours early. The car was an almost brand new model, spotlessly clean. It was a joy to drive. We took the full insurance package so when we got 2 stone chip cracks in the windscreen there was no problem. We phoned ezi car, told them about the damage and they gave us the option of returning the car for a replacement or continuing if the chips were not bothering us, which we did.

Ezi car also organised our ferry ticket as part of the hire package which was very helpful. When we dropped the car at Christchurch airport the hand over was trouble free. We would thoroughly recommend Ezi Car for quality of service and quality of vehicle.

Unfortunately we have made quite bad experience with ezi cars beginning with the taking over of the car where we had to get a translation of my drivers license although it was named in english and the different types of permissions where infographics. Interestingly everybody who came in had to make that, seems to be an additional earning. After two hours we had that translation but unfortunately still no car was ready, means we left the car rental 4 hours later than ordered.
With the car infact we had no problems at all as it was a quite new one.
The huge disappointment came at the very end. We gave back the car in very short time and went to the airport with a shuttle which we could take immediately. By arriving at the airport we realized that we left the camera with all the pictures of our 3 weeks trip under the passenger seat (we are 100% sure that we put it there, as just before on the way to the airport we made pictures from the skyline of Auckland). We immediately contacted ezi and where picked up with the next shuttle. We searched someone to talk but had to wait half an our before someone helped us. They told us that they whould check the monitoring video which took a long time. Meanwhile we saw and checked ourselves the freshly washed and prepared car for the next rental without success. After a worrying hour they claimed that they could not find the camera. Means it was stolen.
As the departure of the flight came closer they told us that they will send the camera if they whould find it later which unfortunately wasn't the case. Later by mailing I made even the proposition just to send me the memory card but did not get any further answer.
In summary we had a good car which gives two points but the contact with ezi was a huge dissapointment.

Booked a car for 8:30. After arriving at the Auckland branch 2 hours late due to flight delays were told the booking was cancelled as no contact was made. Hard to do when stuck 10000 kms in the air.

Nothing was offered as both cars had apparently been hired out already. Company Representative (I'd stop short of calling him customer service) shrugged shoulders, said there was nothing he could do, and then seemed to be offended when we were forced to make calls to other businesses while walking out of the building.

Pathetic customer experience. Cheap for a reason, they're useless.

Hired a rental in NZ - something we do each time we visit home...this time tried a different company - EZi Car Rentals at Wellington Airport..long story short..we have been charged $2,500 for a couple of chips on the rear bumper that were there when we collected the car..

Interestingly when we pointed them out at collection we were advised it was damage done on a previous occasion and not to worry, they admit they don't note chips, the guy who drove us back over to the International departure assured us we didn't do the damage and that it was there when detailed for us to collect...

Has anyone else faced this from this company??!

We waited over an hour to be collected by this company - after we landed and got thru customs - after wandering all over the outside car parks and calling them over the information phone ( which in itself was another excruciating experience).

At pick up: We had been in the go from just before midnight the day before and this was now close to 5pm and we still needed to drive thru to Hastings so granted, we were in a hurry and took the young Asian woman at her word - she also admitted she was keen to close up for the day.

On return: Again there was some urgency from us as a few traffic holdups into Wellington and the Airport had put us behind.. we felt highjacked as there seemed nothing we could do as they ( diff staff this time round) - and that back left hand side bumper was the first place he looked and insisted the damage was our doing.... even looking at the previous users and advising nothing was noted on the form there either...which didn't surprise me as they said themselves, they don't write down chips..I said well we did take out full insurance on making the booking, but it seemed wrong that we would be the ones whose insurance would be used to pay for someone else's damage..
I smell a BIG FAT RAT! Are they praying on those from overseas knowingly? We are all keen to get our holidays started and stupidly take their word.

VERY MISLEADING insurance - despite taking out full excess waiver from Holiday Autos in the UK (an additional extra on their website), when we arrived to collect the car, Ezi in New Zealand required an additional $2,000 as the waiver we paid for through Holiday Autos was not valid. Several other people at the counter at the same time had the same issue. Even the woman at the Ezi counter admitted that it was a common issue and that the insurance was a rip-off.

Condition of car very poor. While we knew the car was not new, the car provided was covered in dents and scratches and the paperwork only had four items marked whereas EVERY panel had damage. We had to correct their sheet to show about 30 dents or scratches.

It was not obvious from the Holiday Autos website that the insurance link went to a third party site so very misleading.

The cars are old and smell of some kind of urine. When you request a change you get snarky comments like "this is what you get with a budget rental". STAY AWAY FROM EZI CAR RENTAL!!

Staff at the Auckland counter gave me the worst service I ever had for the entire 10 days of this New Zealand trip.

Not only the staff was not wearing any smiles, she was frowning and being rude with her actions; giving one answer replies and throwing my stuff around when returning my drivers license, credit cards and receipts.

When handing over the rental car, she did not marked any chips and dents on the vehicle acceptance form and asked me to signed it, and when I took some pictures of the dents and scratches to protect my own interest she rudely told me to hurry up and sign it.

The last straw was when she threw the pen at the form placed on the car when I walked towards it. Immediately went inside the manager's office and requested for another personnel and things went a lot smoother with the usual vehicle handover inspection, signed it after less than a minute.

I didn't get the name of the staff but she looks like she was of Indian ethnicity. It's just a description so you could at least avoid her if you had no choice and are stuck with EZI.

Booked car for collection from Auckland Airport.
When I collected they insisted I use a credit card or pay $2500 I did not have either.
They refused to let a family member pay over the phone on their credit card and insisted I take insurance although I have comprehensive insurance, they also took $150 extra to be returned if car had been refuelled.
I returned car full and undamaged and asked if it was satisfactory, was told it was. They took my debit card and supposedly returned my $150. I now find they have debited my account the day after return.
My car hire went from $160 for 5 days to $430!
I will never use them again, they should be up front and honest about their charges.
They lied on their quote by not stating all the extra charges, I had no choice but to pay.
I would have been better off using a company closer to the airport who stated the exact cost before I arrived.

At Queenstown airport, we were given this Toyota Estima which had many dings and chips on the body. I was told not to worry about them as I took the extra insurance to reduce my excess to $0. It sounded great at the time! BUT afterward, I felt that they have given me this car deliberately so that they can get all the repair done for free using my insurance!! The car itself had done 190 thousand km, seriously, I have not rented a car that has done so many kms for more than a decade!
The doors squeaked. I rented the car for 9 days, the engine oil lamp lit up on the 7th day! The steering was slightly tilted to the left!
The only positive thing I can say in this rental experience is that they did give me an 8 seater as I requested when I booked.

On 16 April 2015 we rented a car from Ezi Rent - Auckland. The reception staff that helped us was the most unpleasant and unfriendly person that I have met in customer service. The car that we rented, a Nissan Tiida, was also not the best of cars we could have rented and I guess it's true what they say, you get what you pay for. This car have travelled a distance of 198000kms. The front tyres were worn and I'm surprised that it had a WOF (Warrant of Fitness). On 19 April 2015, we travelled back to Australia. We arrived at the Auckland branch at 06:30am to return the car. On our arrival at the office, the office was closed. There were another couple waiting when we got there. There were no indication of the office hours and upon calling the 24 hour hotline I got the annoying message that I called them out of business hours. When they eventually opened at 7am, we were told to hand in the car keys and the cars were inspected without us being present. I guess their biggest concern was to ensure that the cars were returned with a full tank of fuel. While we were waiting, other customers arrived to return their cars as well. This resulted in another debacle. There was only one shuttle to transport about 15 passengers and to say the least, there were some anxious passengers thinking they were going to miss their flights. I wouldn't recommend ezi rent car hire to anybody.

Probably not the best value for money, especially when you're used to European models. Service is ok though and the car does have automatic climate control. Having automatic gearing does take the fun out of driving the winding roads here, but might be an advantage if you're not used to driving a stick car with the steering wheel on the right hand side.
