Where to Head Underground
The two main caving options on the West Coast are pretty different in flavour. Charleston is your more involved adventure, with a cave, glowworms, underground rafting and a railway all bundled together. The full rafting experience is the one to do if you're going to commit. The RANKERS promo code gets you a discount on the whole underground adventure out of Charleston, which takes the edge off a bit.
Free Glowworms at Punakaiki
If you're not after a paid tour, the Punakaiki Cavern is worth knowing about. During the day it's fairly unremarkable, but go after dark and the glowworms show up. It's a short walk, it's free, and it's genuinely pretty special for what it costs. Not the best glowworm experience going around, but solid for a freebie.
Hokitika's Glowworm Dell is an even easier intro if you're based in town, though it can get busy and the vibe is a bit strange. Worth a look if you haven't seen glowworms before, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
